.308 PSP CoreLokt 150 grain Expansion Velocity
« on: October 16, 2008, 03:36:34 AM »
Anyone that has info on the vlocity range for expansion of this bullet?  I shoot it in my 300 Savage and I was curious how low velocity would still provide some expansion on a normal 125 pound whitetail.
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

This bullet works good out of my 10" .30-30 Contender barrel at about 1800fps.

The 180gr PSP also works perfect out of a 30/40 Krag !   :)

Everyone left out the range to the target.  The bullet might expand great at 50 yards, but not open up at all at 200 yards.  It is the impact velocity that matters, not the muzzle velocity.

The muzzle velocity  will translate to MUCH reduced impact velocity with any bullet. What you shoot it in can determine how fast you can START it. 30-30, 308 ,30-06 or 300ultra mag? A good loading manual should show you the remaining velocity/energy figures for ranges out to several hundred yards. A call to the factory should give you the lower expansion limits.

Small doe at 90 yards yesterday.  Slipped in right behind shoulder offhand...exit hole was 1.5" diameter.  I think it expands fine from my 300 Savage.
