I'm also looking at some of 600 or 700 grain hardcast... Maybe I just feel like some punishment this year....

I get 1430fps with a max load of Lil'gun under the 700gr Ranger Ricks, goes thru paper at 100yds with no problems!! ::) ;D Someday I'd like to do some penetration tests.

It's not a problem on a Leadsled which I had for shooting those!! 8) But with weight in the stock, a Limbsaver on the stock, and a Past Magnum shoulder pad on me, they'd be tolerable from the bench, that's what I used before the Leadsled. ;)

How do you think recoil is compared to your 45-120 blackpowder loads?

In a rifle the hornady 500gn should not be a problem as I shoot them in my sw 500 mag revolver alot. The rounds that hurt me are the buffalo bore. I shot a couple of those 700 grn loads out of my 500 mag and would not advise it in a revolver.

In an 8lb rifle, using 29gr of powder under the 700gr RR @ 1430fps, recoil is 49.42lbs. The Buffalo Bore 440gr @ 1625fps would produce 28.96lbs recoil using a 35gr max load of Lil'gun.

The buffalo bore hurt my arm after a few shots but it was shootable but the 700gr loads my friend made had such a violent kick I will never try  them again unless a rhino was chasing me down a dead end alley with no other choice but to shoot on of those out of my 500 revolver .How do those 700gr loads compare to a hot 4570 load if both were fired out of a handi?

I have shot the 350gr hornady's and I found them to have a violent recoil... This isn't a target gun...

A 300gr Nosler Partition @ 2425fps in the same 8lb rifle has 35.86lbs recoil. I have some .458" 720gr RR bullets, but haven't shot them yet, but I sent some to Tykempster to test in his 45-120NE Buffalo Classic, they provide about 120lbs recoil at 2000fps.  :o

This was THE bullet I wanted to shoot form the 500. I couldn't find a load that was accurate enough for me. I was hoping for consistent 2" groups @ 100yrds. I used all the applicable powders. i had a couple come close, but no cigar. I shot them font mid 1400's up to almost 1800fps. Recoil was manageable.

Tim recommended Ranger Ricks line of cast bullets, BINGO!!  The 440gr WFN GC is shooting GREAT!!

I want to begin experimenting with Rem's 385gr .500 bullet. Its price is VERY attractive, as long as I can find a good load.... ::)
