I received my Handi Rifle today from Remington and all was as I expected it. Packaged well, no new scratches on the stock or receiver. The new barrel includes iron sights, I was pleasantly surprised as I expected it to be bare. I'm very happy with the service. I shipped my receiver Sept. 17th via UPS ground. It arrived at Illion one week later on the 24th. Got it back today, 10/17. One month including the week transit to NY. Total charges to my cc the same as the total on the order form.

Good to hear good news. That is how every gun should be boxed for shippment. Double boxed. I can't believe they are trying to ship others in the flimsy inner box alone. You also got a very quick turn around.

Your rifle looks nice, I hope it shoots to your expectations. Notice how your sights and hammer spur rubbed on the inner box, had that been the only layer of cardboard it probably would have tore through and your return might not have been as happy.

What caliber did you get, and what will you be hunting with it?

You're right about the rubbing, the rifle survived because it was double boxed (as they all should be).
It's a 357 magnum and I'll be hunting the illusive and dangerous North American paper target. Occasionally I'll be going after the full soda can, and other targets of opportunity found at my favorite shooting spot.

Good to see another good report, and thanks for taking the time to do so. If you haven't already, please vote in the satisfaction poll at the top of the page (sticky). I figure Remington will eventually get things working properly, and I'm watching that poll to see when things turn more positive than negative. I (and possibly others) are using that poll data to decide when to send our guns back in.

After reading many of the not-so-happy returns posted, the poll was the first place I went to check the yes box.
I really hope everyone else now gets good service from Remington on their Handi Rifles (and other Rem. products).

It's good to hear you got it back in a timely fashion but where are the preformed cardboard braces to hold the rifle securely inside the box and the heavy foam blocks to protect the areas such as the sights, rails, barrel etc.?

The preformed cardboard is there, and can be seen unfolded in the last picture. There was only one small foam block and that was on the hammer. My happy return is due in no small part to the "gentle" handling of UPS.

I'm curious. How exactly did you ship it? Was it double-boxed, did you ship it in your own inner box, or did H&R provide a new inner and outer box for shipping?

What about the rest of you, especially those with bad experience? How did you ship out? Not attempting to justify bad return packing, just looking for SOME correlation.

It didn't return with as much packing material as I used when I sent it in, but did come back in a formed box.

Properly sized for a full-sized rifle to be returned in it? Again, just curious.

Did you send it in your own H&R box, and did it come back in the same box (albeit with less padding)?

Nope, I didn't have an H&R box. The box I sent the receiver and forearm in was much shorter, wider, and thicker than the box it came back in. I put a lot of packing material around the contents as I didn't want them to get damaged in transit.

Hmmmm, guess I thought "shipping and handling" kinda covered those things like, you know, boxes and packing.

On the positive side, there was no extra charges on the invoice for the box. DP

I use the large priority video box to ship frames in for barrel fitting, with insurance it'll cost less than $11 and it has always arrived in 2 days in Gardner, I would expect Ilion to be the same.

Shipped my receiver wrapped in a towel and newspaper covered by heavy cardboard, taped up tightly with my name and serial number on the towel and on the inside of the box (somebody has a nice bench towel now that thinks of me every time they use it....

. Didn't get the towel back (not that I really figured I would), and got the standard thin layer of carboard strategically cut and folded and zip tied together. Didn't have any damage to it though, came back with the same scratches it left with.

For those who have sent a barrel to Ilion and received it back, how up to date is Remington keeping the tracking information that they post on the website?
