    In reality, if anybody is really worried about a dented tube, then simply buy a spare one and put it in the closet.

    Or, go out and buy a steel  or brass rod of the same diameter as the internal diameter of the tube, round one end of the steel rod on your grinder, and keep it in the closet in case you ever need to tap it down the inside of the tube to remove a dent.  Pretty easy stuff.

    Moreover, if you ever did get a dent in the tube that you couldn't repair, then most likely it would be about halfway down the tube.  So, you could probably still get the tube to hold and feed three rounds or so, leaving you with a 3 plus 1 rifle, which is the same as many bolt rifles with detachable mags.

mannyrock what you have there is a very workable solution to a problem that I personally have never actually heard of anyone having. I am sure it COULD HAPPEN, I just never met anyone that had experience it. It goes back to what I have said all along. ADAPT to the situation. We as a people have in some areas FORGOTTEN how little we actually need to survive, and like your idea, common sense is harder and harder to come by.
It is much like the double tap when Law Enforcement started using the high capacity 9mm. That NEW DRILL alone should have sounded the alarm that the 9mm Parabellum originally designed for a a sub-machine gun was INADEQUATE for self defense in a pistol as a reliable one shot stopper. They have even came up with a souped up version of the round calling it a 357sig which is totally reliant on hydrolics. It's still a 9mm, and will never be a 357 mag.
Your idea by the way was and IS a good one.

A .30-30 thread with six pages.  I love it.  Let me tell y'all a story.

Back in the late '80s I picked up a Revelation .30-30, made by Mossberg.  Nice little lever, I picked it up used, cheap and put it in the gun cabinet for the boys to shoot.  We lived way out in the country and I had three boys, so I was always looking for a good deal on a used firearm.

That Mossberg shot, and shot, and shot.  The boys used it for everything and it took its share of deer and hogs.  It shot snakes, it shot stray dogs, it shot lots and lots of cans and paper.  Mostly Remington 170 grain loads.

Then the boys grew up and moved away. One of them was using it some years later and he said it jammed on him.  I put it in the gun rack and forgot about it.  I found it last week and took it to a gunsmith, a fellow I've dealt with for years.  He looked at it and told me it wasn't worth fixing.

The receiver is worn out.  Years of shooting have "wallered out" that inner receiver until it doesn't hold the parts in alignment.  He can't get the parts to fix it, and making them would be too expensive.  On the other side, my boys can claim to be in a select group of people who actually wore out a firearm.  Not many people can say that.

The Revelation is becoming a wall-hanger in the boy's metalwork shop.

Do I like .30-30s?  Yeah.  I'm down to two right now.

   That is a great story you have. Here is a solution.  :-)

    Call each of your three sons, and tell them that you are outraged that they wore out YOUR .30-30 Mossberg, and that each of them has to send you $100 to make up for it.

    Take the $300, start going to gunshows, and find a very good used Mossberg lever, that is the same model as your original.

    Strip off everything from the receiver of the replacement rifle, and substitute the replacement receiver into your original rifle. (You will have to pay a gunsmith to headspace the old barrel onto the replacement receiver.)

     Then, you will have your original rifle, with a replacement receiver on it, and a  bunch of spare parts left over. 

     Put the original rifle back into your guncabinet, and save it for your grandchildren. :-)   Take the old receiver, and transfer it to the gunsmith on his books, for destruction by him.

     Yea, I know that this is a waste of money, but what the heck.  :-)

Dee, you sure got some mileage out of this " I like my 3030! Regardless ". WOW 6 Pages. That's GREAT.
This just shows how popular that this old cartridge is. With all the super-duper cartridges that have come out over the past decades. It good to see that the good old " turty-turty " is still holding strong as a game getter in the hands of many hunters myself included, now. My Dad, my Uncles and many family members hunted with the 30-30's. Then when I started hunting I wasn't going to use " that old cartridge ". So I went the super-duper route of the 25-06 & 270. They served me well over the years. Then when my Dad passed away in the mid-90's I passed his guns done to my 3 son's, all except his Winchester 94 in 30-30 ( mfg. early 50's ). That began my great appreciation of the 30-30. I'd alway's know that the 30-30 was very accurate cartridge because I had loaded for his two 30-30's over the years, with his old Marlin 336 being the most accurate of them.
Now along with the Model 94, I have the 30-30 in a T/C 12" Custom, a 30-30 Ack Imp Bullberry 23" barrel for my T/C , and the 30-30 cartridge spin-off's, 30 Herrett, 7x30 Waters.
Long live the 30-30.

The 30-30 is kinda like that one of a kind woman in your life. Think about it you spend all of high school and possibly a lot longer fooling with every girl you can find and then one day you realize the one you spent all your down time goofing off with growing up is the only one you can't live without.


For me there is only 3 things I will never let a man take from me unless I am getting cold cause he just killed me.
1) My name
2) My Winchester 94
3) My wife

I know some are divorced, some have lost their wives, but it all comes back to there are few things in life that you can always count on and for me those three listed above have never let me down.

It's a lucky man who can get #3 on your list that dependable the first time out! For me, #3 is my #3 and she is more dependable than my #1 and #2 put together, but that's just my luck. I'm just glad I didnt quit looking, though I wasn't looking when she came along and we had been friends for over 10 years! Just had our 13th anniversary last hunting season. YES!

Same goes with the 30-30. Never had one. Shot a couple - not terribly impressed - Gramp had a 32WSpl that "could whip 'em all" and had at several turkey shoots back in the day. That rifle graces my cabinet (as I've posted before it shot my last elk to date).
Well, the other day, over on the MarlinOwners Forum, came this posted for sale Marlin Model 30TK at what looked a quite reasonable price, though not cheap. It included deluxe wood (walnut, checkered) Marlin sling, scope rail and shipping/insurance. I joined the list of "I'll take it" posts and waited. Next day I got a PM of "do ya want it". I hit the reply YES and took about 30 minutes to convince the wife, get to the bank, my FFL dealer, post office and back home to PM him "it's in the mail". He PM'd it was ready to ship upon receipt of MO. I'm getting excited to get my first 30-30 at 60 years old. It will be the 3rd Marlin in my life (joining my 41Mag and my wife's 22rf Model 70 Carbine). I really was looking for a project rifle, but this one looks too nice to alter, may be too nice to put in the truck!

Daman, I am in complete agreement with you. That is exactly how it happend to me, and I just kept goin back to ole reliable (My 94). I don't even shop for fun anymore. It's all I need.

Dee did you mean a model 66 or 65 .357 mag. My issue backup pistol was a 5 shot model 60 .38 special  with +p rounds. I now carry a  686 smith with a 2 1/2 " barrell that was a South African issued police sidearm (surplus).

No I have a Model 60 J Frame in 357 magnum, and I no longer carry a Glock. I sold it and now carry a Model 686 in 2 1/2" in 357 mag. I am, as I originally started in 1970 back to all wheel gun protection other than a Browning Buckmark 22 for yard varmints of the four legged kind, and finishing shots on larger game.
