A few years I read a book by (I think) Frank DeHaas. The Single Shot Book. In it he outlined the procedure for accurising the Browning B-78 by shimming the forearm under the mount screw.
If anyone has a copy of this book will you scan that section and email it to me?
Or if anyone can provide the same information from memory or experience please email me or post here on this thread.
I have a B-78 in 25/06 that I wish to fine tune to optomise accuracy. Thanks POW

I have Frank de Haas's book "Single Shot Rifles and Actions" 1969 but there is no article on accurizing the Browning rifle. The only article on the Browning action is the Wichester built browning and then just a description of the action and its mechanical workings. The book I have is
ISBN 0-910676-01-X soft-bound.
I may have a different book than the one you are talking about.

The Book is Mr. Single Shot's Gunsmithing -Idea Book. got a copy in my lap right now. found it day before yesterday unpacking boxes. Just moved and i am supposed to be unpacking and not playing on the computer...wife finds out and I'm toast!.

I haven't relocated the scanner yet, but drop me a PM and remind me to san this in for you.

Fellas its probably been over ten yrs since I had that book in my hands and I seem to have forgotten the exact title. It just seemed like it was Frank De Haas and the title was The Single Shot Book. Sorry for the confusion. I seem to remember that his Browning was in 244 Rem but the forearm shiming would be the same regardless.
I will check back with you in time and hopefully find you in a position to provide the information. Thanks. POW

POW, take the forend off your Browning. Tape up the barrel so you won't scratch the blueing, and clamp it in your drill press. you want to drill a #21 hole in the forend hanger, about 1/2" back from the tip. Then tap this hole with a 10x32 tap, and either buy or make a 1/2", 10x32 setscrew. This will allow you to tension the forend hanger against the barrel, and is the method used in the FDH book. I used this on my B-78 in .22-250 years ago, and it worked for me.

no 1 for 20 years, and this guy has some realy new ideas about them
