Same thing here.... was out for 4 hours Sat. evening, all I saw was a groundhog (on some other property that I don't hunt) and a BIG coyote harrassing some cattle on the farm next to where I hunt. That dog was so big I thought that it was a German Shepard when it was first running across the field. Very brown colored too, most of the coyotes I see are the grayish color.
I thought Sunday morning would be excellent, I took some back roads to the hunting area, around 6 AM, saw several deer moving, including a really pretty little 6 pt. Got to the farm just before 7 AM, dawn hadn't broke quite yet, sat until 11 AM and didn't see anything. Heard some turkeys, but never laid eyes on them either. When back out about 3 PM and sat until dark, same story.
This is probably the last year I'll hunt this farm, been going to it for around 10 years, and we've taken a few deer, and let more walk on by. The owner decided to start running cattle again last year, bulldozed a part of the farm to make a bigger pasture on one side, and keeps moving the cattle from one part to the other part every few months. The deer have been there, the old lick we put in had a lot of tracks in it, and the new pond's banks were TORE up with hoof prints. I guess everything he's doing has upset the deer. They don't hold on his farm, they just use it as a travel corridor to move around. Guess they are just using it at night, as he's not been seeing hardly any movement at all this season.
