How is this for a tiny Deer!!!!!!!!!!
« on: October 19, 2008, 04:12:48 PM »
I received this in an email and thought you guys might like to see this. Do you think he will always be very small for a Deer? Dale

This tiny deer was delivered by Caesarean section at a wildlife hospital after his mother
was killed by a car.  Little Rupert, who is so small he can fit in an adults hand, was born
after vets failed in their battle to save his mother.
At just six inches tall and weighing just over a pound, he is now in an incubator

in the intensive care unit at Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Buckinghamshire.

He has only recently opened his eyes.

Les Stocker, founder of Tiggywinkles, said: Ruperts mother had very severe injuries.

We brought him out and got him breathing and then he went into an incubator on oxygen.

He is now being fed by a tube.

Rupert pulls a striking pose for the camera

Staff are optimistic Rupert, now five days old, will make a full recovery.

Deer are very, very tricky but this one has spirit. He is an extremely feisty

little guy and quite pushy, Mr Stocker said.

The quality of a mans life is in direct proportion to his commitment to excellence.

A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work!!

Wow, little Rupert is very little indeed. Hope he goes on to be a huge Buck. Sad about his mama getting hit. My wife and daughter loved the photos of the little guy. Thanks for sharing.

Also from the town name ( Buckinghamshire ) it sounds like England to me. This could be one of those Row Deer Britt Hunter speaks of on another forum here on GBO. I think they are small Deer to start with but I think this is on the extreme side. Dale

Sad news Dale. Little Rupert didn't make it, according to the story in the Bucks Herald:

OGB. That is sad. How did you find the article on him? I showed my daughter the pictures and she said AHHHHHHHHHH I want a miniature Deer. I don't think I will tell her he died. Dale

Amazing that at times and in some places more effort is expended to save the life of animal critters than to save the lives of human babies who are murdered by the millions annually and few think twice about it.

Geez folks it's a wild critter subject to the vargarities of nature most die even without hunting by humans well before they reach one year of age. And yes it does appear to be a roe now row deer and as such would never have become a big buck as they are rather tiny deer and even a mature buck isn't the size of a six month old fawn white tail and has smaller antlers as well.

Well gee Graybeard, I just wanted Rupert to grow up so that I might get a chance to hunt him down, kill him, and have him dinner one day. :D After they stuck all that money into saving him, I didn't want him to go to waste. ;)

I have to agree with Graybeard here. It's a cute story, but how dang much money was spent to try to save a deer? Just a little more wasful spending. It all adds up. Kinda reminds me about how one of my sergents in the army stated about being "nickeled and dimed to death."

I agree, lots of money spent on saving animals and little on humans.

Being a roe deer was most likely a full term fawn.

Well he sure looks like a Roe deer, but the article says he's a Muntjac deer. After a little study, there appears to be some huge differences in the two species.
