Care to explain your comment/post?

In every post up near the right upper corner are a series of icons. One of them is this: and right beside it is the word REMOVE. That is the delete button for that post.

Now if the post is the beginning post in a thread and if another post has been made you can't remove that thread beginning post without removing the entire thread and only Moderators or Admins can do that. But anyone can remove a single post they have made so long as it is not the first post of a thread and can then if no other posts have been made to it.

So care to explain what it is you are after here?

Let me add that on THIS forum DD & I take pains to do two things when encountering an 'offensive' post.

1. It is deleted, so as to conform to the rules of the board and our forum.

2. We send an email or PM to the poster with an explanation.

If on the other hand you're referring to the editing of a post by the person who does the posting, there is an automatic function that notes when it's been last edited.

If you need something deleted that you posted, just ask, we'll clean it up.

Thanks,

Graybeard:
I don't see a red X anywhere. I posted some images as attachments and wanted to remove them and post them larger from your hosted pix site. DD patiently took me through the process and it was easily done; even for me. Now I would like the remove the post where they were but the bones are still there without the meat. It is with my former calendar submissions and I don't want to leave the mess behind. I didn't want to bother DD again. I thought you had solved my problem with your response to "Nasty Jack" ...BUT I can't find any X.

Bill,

Are you sure your not looking at something only the sergeant and his corporals have? I just took a look and I can't find any delete function for the privates. There USED to be a delete function, and it was nice to have if a double post were made, or if someone posted while you were typing and it was basically the same reply you posted, but as far as I can tell that hasn't been there for some time.

I see modify and quote, no red X, and in the lower right hand corner there's a modify symbol that lets you emend your post on the page without having to go back to the post reply page.

That's correct - NO red X.
None on any of my postings.
There's only "Quote" and "Modify"

Tim aka quickdtoo PM'ed me and said that only Moderators and Admins have the delete function now. I was not aware that had changed but according to Tim when Matt made the last software change that was left off. I'm pretty sure it can be added back and I'll discuss it with Matt and see if so and get him to. I was not aware it wasn't still there for all to do in the manner I described in my original post to this thread.

I suppose if someone really HAD to delete something they'd accidentally stuck on here...... say accidentally posted a porn picture instead of a cannon picture, or they wanted to get rid of a load of libelous (That spelling don't look right to me), text, they could click on "Modify", and then simply edit everything from the message. It would still show a message heading, but below it, just an empty space.

It's a question in the form of a statement. The formal rhetorical name for that is "linguistic pragmatics."

"Upper right corner . . . "

I still don't see it. Not on the "posting/editing" screen.

Intuitively, I'd search for a "delete function" somewhere in the area of the "post" and "preview" function -- insofar as these are all in the  "publishing options" genre and would seem "intuitively" to be grouped together.

I "previewed" my post here . . . twice . . . It was pretty extensive, and I lost it both times. This present content was posted to see if the GBO system was functioning. It is -- evidently -- and now it'd be nice to delete the thread.

I don't see any icon with an "X" anywhere around the upper area of the edit window.

--------------------------------

Reviewing the other posts . . . (I tend not to read entire threads.) I expect that the X function is reserved for the NCO's in garrison . . . probably on a "need to know" basis inasmuch as my retired rank is Brig. Gen. -- a field commission I got during a manoeuvre.
