Here is how I would like pictures posted here:

Date or Season the picture was taken

Topic or Title to where the picture was taken

Just a bit of a story if you could.

Season Last Autumn while out west of Kalispell, Mt about 40 miles on Highway 2

Title Look real hard, he's out there

Story While out conducting surveying of underground power lines, I had found this setting looking west of where I was. The snow had fallen that day, as you can see the fresh layer the tops of this old clearcut had gotten. These type of areas make great hunting spots, and are on public land.

I was about to say it must be a squirrel on a tree up in the snow area but after blowing it up to 400% size and examining each area of it I do see what could maybe be a prairie dog to the right of and in front of the aspens on the left of the image. I see what could be PD mounds in the photo at that high magnification of it and a dark dot or blob that might be a PD.

Nope you missed the elk, sorry they must have moved.

So tell me where to look. I sure see none in the photo. I spent a lot of time looking at it at 100% then 200% and finally at 400% size slowing moving up and down left and right to see the entire image at each size. I figured elk but sure found none.

Season: Spring April 2, 2000, the Double D Gopher Ranch, 25 miles north of Cut Bank

Title: On April 1, 2002 it was 72 degrees, this is April 2.

We had to have at least one of these pictures. I used this picture in my Introduction when I taught at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy in Glynco, GA. People always think it wilderness or cold in Montana so why destroy the Illusion.

I later changed that picture to this one.

We were out looking for Huns this fall, when I snapped this pictures. This is a block managment farm. The Farmer make shis property avaialble for public hunting via the Parks and Wildlife Department. Look of in the horizon and you can see the Kevin Rim and beyond that the Rocky Mountains

Season: Summer storm over the Sweet Grass Hills.

Title: Sweet Grass Hills

The Sweet Hills as seen from my old place--The Double D Gopher Rach, located 25 miles nort of Cut Bank. The big round hill in the middle is West Butte and is about 45 miles away. The smaller mountain to the right is Gold butte about 60 miles away. In 2001 I took a cow elk in the saddle on the left side of West Butte as seen in this picture.

Excellent pictures and story lines Montanan and Double D. That's some beautiful country you fellows have out there in Montana. Being from Wisconsin, I guess the April and May pictures are the one I relate to the most, but not because I want to.

The tree and mountain pictures are Montanan's. Mine are the bald prairie pictures. The snow picutures are to scare the riff raff off. Works a little in Montana how about in Wisconsin?

Thanks Double D for setting me straight on that. I was just getting into the those beautiful pictures so much that I must have lost track of the authors. I fixed my post above to also include Montanan. And as far as the snow pictures being used to scare off the riff-raff, I'm not sure if it works in Wisconsin or not. We seem to get more and more riff-raff every day.

Just kidding of course. Most Wisconsin folks (at least the ones I know) are pretty darn nice, down to earth people.

We have been watch various deer herds all year long. We know the area where they hang out. We went out this moring to see if we could pattern them and locate this this time of year. We found them but not where we thought they would be. This is prime whitetail country.

Shot this several years ago with my chemical camera when we were out gopher hunter. This is a common sight around Montana. One minute you are looking out across the rolling prairie the next you looking of over the rimrock into these deep coulees.

Winter just keeps rolling along here.....lots of snow and lots of cold weather. Here are a few photos taken on the road this week by another resident here in (Northeast Montana)... The first photo is of a herd of antelope he photographed about daybreak east of Malta.

The next photo is the road going to Lustre High School (northeast of Glasgow)... Some of these high schools are extremely small. It's not uncommon to have less than 5 kids in a graduating class.

He photographed this Muley Fawn right along the highway. The muley was laying less than 15 feet from the road. When he stopped the fawn stood up, but appeared to be too weak to run. The extreme cold and snow is starting to take its toll... Anti-hunters never see things like this. Mother Nature can be much more cruel than a hunter's bullet or arrow, as we all know.

The next photo is the town of Whitewater, another very small town in the middle of nowhere. Kids here that want a "Big Mac" have to travel about 130 miles to get to the nearest one. There is no store in Whitewater...just a post office, bar, and school. They have to travel 33 miles to Malta to get a loaf of bread.

The last photo is of another herd of antelope near Saco...the antelope have bunched up into large groups like this all over this part of the state...

Season This October, just north of Twin Bridges on the Jefferson river.

Title Pre-season game damage hunt.

Story First time out on this ranch, I was busy with work so we got out a little late during the game damage hunt. Unfortunately both neighbors to this place don't allow hunting and the deer found safe places. Beautiful day though.

Season Hunting season of course, this November. About 10-15 miles up the Blacktail east of Dillon

Title We're safe.

Story So we spent the morning hiking up the hills on a block management hunting area, nothing to be found but pretty views, when we were driving home we found the elk, safe on posted property.

Story I had gone out to this spot the night before and really, really regretted not bringing the camera and wasn't going to make the mistake two days in a row. I did get a whitetail doe very close to where the 1st picture was taken the evening before.
