the  last  man  that took me to the groundclaimed  to be  a  black belt  instructor

he  was  quicker  than  most  and  thought  he  could  run  off  with  some of  my  money

i  bit him severely   and  told  him to  make  payments

he  didn't  so  i  talked  to  him  again  at  sunrise  after  he  was  up  all  night

he  had  trouble  maintaining  balance  as  i kept  hitting  his  chest

told  him  i will  hit  him  in  the  face next  week

he  didn't  miss any payments

i  don't  do  well on  the ground

Bill, you probably need to get in to see the Doc about a stress test. (If you have not done so already)
The stress test checks out your heart of course, what you want to check out is the possibility of having a fluid build up around the heart which could lead to congestive heart failure. Those who are diagnosed with This condition usually just have to weigh theirself's every day and if one see's a weight gain of 3lbs, they call the Doc right away and he prescribes extra meds that will alleviate the fluid buildup around the heart sac.
With the heart being able to work as it should, it is going to pump more blood and distribute more oxygen.

Been there done that. I couldn't last long enough on the treadmill to get a proper reading so they had to do the stress with chemicals. Had the heart cath shortly afterward. I've had over $50,000 worth of tests done to check my hearth, lungs, liver and about everything else they can think of to spend my money. End result is they said they got no clue why I have shortness of breath but that my blood oxygen level is low and seems to stay that way. Exertion makes it worse.

I am supposed to be on oxygen 24-7 but am a stubborn old fart and only use it at night and during my daily nap. Which by the way it's nearly time for now.

I'm sorry to hear this, I had no idea.  I wish you all the best, and I hope somehow they are able to diagnosis this properly and get you the proper treatment.  Don't give up hope.
And I think you have a great forum.

hey bill, you stay stubborn.  that oxegon will burn your lungs out within a few years.  everyone i know that gets put on it within a few years they were through.  use that stuff sparingly.  God didnt want us to breathe that stuff in pure form or he would have made the air that way.  just use it sparingly....   best to ya.

I agree, I would remain stubborn as long as I could... O2 seems to reek havoc on lungs when used all the time.  Saw it happen to my Grandmother.  Take care of yourself Bill!

Even at night it's not really pure O2 I breath. I have a machine that pulls O2 from the air and concentrates it then sends it down a tube to mix with the room air being pumped to me via the CPAP. The stuff in the cannisters they gave me tho is pure O2 I assume but I'm resisting using it.

I've given up hope of a diagnosis to determine what's really wrong. I gave them a full year to think up every test known to modern medicine and they administered them all some more than once. In the end the specialist just shook their heads and said they had no clue why.

I do what I can and when it gets so bad I can't breath and just gasp for air I do what I hafta. Once this summer while Matt was up on the roof of the barn side shed and I was handing stuff up to him to work with I had to ride my four wheeler back to the house to lay down and breath the O2 thru the CPAP to regain my breath enough to stop gasping like a dying person. It limits me but hasn't stopped me yet.

I boxed (amateur) for a few years, way back when.  I still have a heavy bag and a speed bag in my home gym and work on them pretty often.  At 62 I still feel pretty good and imagine (maybe I'm dreaming) that I could hold my own (for a while anyway).  When I watch these various mixed martial arts disciplines on TV, I still see a nucleus of boxing skills and strategies in many of the techniques.  Although, most of them really couldn't win strictly as boxers. A lot of these UFC guys, if restrained to boxing rules, wouldn't even be competitive.  In other words, if the best MMA guy had to fight a credible boxer by boxing-sanctioned rules, the boxer would win overwhelmingly.   Nonetheless, the MMA guys would prevail in an all out fight against a boxer, given the addition of their wrestling and judo skills.

you are right about boxing.  i have a good friend that is a mma fighter.  he took a boxing match against a guy that was 240 and had a big hieght, reach, and  weight (20lb) advantage.   i told him i didnt think it was a good idea.  he is a tough guy and doesnt mind a beating.  he got one.   but,  if it was a mma match, the story would have been very different.
the ufc fighters are phenominal.  these guys are insanely good.  the guys they have on cbs fights are chumps compared to the ufc fighters.

I myself would rather watch a good boxing match over a good UFC match anyday...

Seems like the UFC fights, the guys wind up on the mat wrestling for 20 mins... Boxing at least they're always on their feet throwing a few punches lol...

If limited to boxing rules I'd be screwed!  My legs are my biggest asset.  Guys just don't expect a little girl to be able to kick like I can!

Graybeard, your CPAP machine is a good one and I think that they probably gave you the cannisters in the event of a power outage?

Not as much as I used to.  Keep in mind I do have 3 sons, and the youngest one is only 14 months old.  I'm working on it though!

Boxing is great, that is how a couple in my family first competed & then our interest went to Martial Arts & then to MMA. MMA, as the name suggest is a mixture of disciplines. My son who competes has a background of Brazilian JiuJitsu, Kick boxing & boxing as well as Taekwondo. If a MMA fighter wanted to be a better boxer, he would train more in boxing obviously. The object is to get in the ring & win, whether you do it through grappling, standup, kicks, whatever it takes, like on the street where it counts. The best MMA fighters are good at several levels, if not they won't get far. At the current competitive level, you have to be good on the ground or stand-up, otherwise the opponent will find your weakness fast. A pure boxer will not last long & in fact MMA fights have no problem with Boxers crawling into the ring, in fact they invite it or any other discipline for that matter.

Yaw-Yan in my younger (and lighter) days, It was most effective.
Also, something that most (maybe all) of you I am sure have never heard of.
It was called Omnite. As it was mostly a mental dicipline,(extreme muscle control)
I have never seen any books written on it. I have not even seen it mentioned in 25 years?
It was some crazy stuff but downright lethal if done properly. I saw something similar
in a move called "The One".. Don't know the actors name who portrayed the bad guy in the
movie but it was apparent that he was at least familiar with Omnite.
Too old and fat for those kinds of things now, But I had my day ;)
I am sure that if I went to kick any thing much higher than someones butt, I would do serious
damage to the seat of my pants. :o
