This calls for a celebration.
Time to live it up tonight. Two budweisers and a
dozen viagra.

And remember......if after 6 hours you still have a buzz from those Budweiser's, call your T\C customer service rep and they will sell you another barrel. :P

You guys crack me up.  No one has ever been convicted of illegally altering a Contender from a rifle to a pistol. On second thought I have so had it with the Democrats presently I am tempted to quit paying taxes and start a rebellion.  Think about it, borrow a trillion dollars from China so we can socialize health care and build roads. Get a grip, talk about a government that has lost all credibility.  Oh yeah the AIG thing, we gave em more than a 100 billion and they sent 64 billion over seas and all the talking heads talk about is 165 million in bonuses that Geitner new about ahead of giving AIG all those billions. I think it is time to not give a darn what ATF thinks and start strongarming/ firing all those Democrat Reps and senators that voted for 2 bills  they probably haven't read yet. Talk about dereliction of duty!

And remember.....if former Governor Rod Blagojevich is still yapping AND his hair is still STANDING UP IN THAT FUNKY HAIR-DO POSITION, after 6 hours of listening to the AIG bonus fiasco on the news, then call your local political representative and he or she will assure you that your tax dollars are being spent in the wisest manner possible to make our country strong.

Then go back to step #1. (That's the Budweiser\Viagra thing.....see above).  :o

OK no Letter Yet
But I am a Procrastinator so it went out less than a week ago  :(

I'm really thinking the post that states NO-one has ever been arrested and the Post where TC said its OK
Are more truth than NOT
Common sense thats what this Discussion really breaks down to along with the Law(s)
If it where WRONG TC would be Told to Make it Perfectly Clear on a Label on the Box
also if it where Illegall by now someone, somewhere has to be on someones I'm going to get you list, and they would have been Charged with the TC rifle / Pistol,
Also with as many that are on the Market someone would have been caught Breaking the Law
IF IT WAS A LAW
Common Sense Say's There would be No Breaking of the Law

Don't bring up "common sense".  Using something like that may lead to rebellion by those wishing to pop a dozen viagra.  You don't want to start getting complaints about stubbies, or short barrels, and why the thing wont fire.  That would require a Gunology, MD  degree to answer vs a Gunology PHD and I don't know any of either on this board.  Let sleeping dogs lie...... :D

TC's policy and the Governments policy are in conflict.
You saw the letters. TC is clearly advising in full violation
of the current policy. I'm not just talking about a pistol to rifle.
They clearly say its ok to make a factory carbine into a pistol.
 Unfortunately, when
the Feds breach your front door in a night raid ala dynamic entry
and accidently kill one of your loved ones and you get haulled off
to prison for 10 years, no one will likely post about it on this forum
maybe because it will be the last thing your worried about. You
got far more pressing issues to worry about like not getting stabbed,
gang raped, or clubbed by the fine residents of Club Fed. By the way,
it took 8 months between the time the handgunhunt letter was requested
to the day they replied. Look closely at the date stamps. They take
their sweet time to write back. I seen the letters and called myself.
Not even TC is going to convince me to take a chance at a possible
all expenses paid trip to Club Fed. Also, I'm not so sure that
no one has been arrested for exactly this issue before. Has anyone actually gone through the past 30 years of ATF arrest records and verified this.
Probably not. It just seems like there is little risk so why bother.
Well, the Feds monitor all the gun websites. If they decide to start cracking down hard on illegal gun conversions to get some brownie points with
Eric Holder the new Attorney General, there might be quite a few
arrests made off of TC owners. The internet
has made it much easier to find evidence and convict.
As far as those that saw this warning and still get caught,
I got the world's smallest violin right here playing for the
pity party because I will not care one bit. I'm done
trying to help.

First I never said I do this,
I own two Frames but tell me this ??
If you own 2  do you mark one so that you know what one is no Longer the Virgin (rifle)
Or do you think that if someone with 2 Frames which I believe most TC people have at least 2 That ,they don't have to worry about getting Caught cause they can say they never did it (thats Crazy)
I feel it necessary when I have 4 or 5 barrels NOT too own 2 Frames but with all this going on
I truly only have one Long Barrel and haven't shot it Yet
IF this is going to turn out to be a HIGH WIRE Act owning Long and Short Barrels
I'll sell the long Barrel

Can you contact TC and find out if a frame is for either a rifle or a pistol?  I heard that TC doesn't differentiate so it would be pretty hard for the Govt to find out.

As far as "keeping track" of which frame is for a long gun and which is for pistol barrels, I mean, come on...that's not exactly all that difficult. My long gun frame always has the butt stock on it. It just doesn't come off. And besides, I know what S\N number it starts with....and that's the frame I had sent back to T\C to convert to the easy open trigger guard. My frame for pistol barrels is a newer one. I have Pachmayr decelerator grips on this frame....so once again, the handgrip just never comes off.

I guess you could always scratch a mark in the bottom with a sharp piece of metal. :-\ You know...like "LG" for Long Gun.

I did contact T\C for how my frames' were initially issued.  They sent me an email with that information too which I printed and have in my gun safe. So, despite what you have heard, T\C does differentiate and does keep records of how the frame was configured when it went out the door.

Dave By Chance in that Letter/Email from TC did you happen to have a Long Gun Frame made from Them
 Or did you make one
Also did they make mention the Pre G2 where all made Pistol

On the Letter I wrote I hope to Haiti they don't take 8 months to reply
the Guy on the phone gave me the Impression of email in and Letter Out

I truly mean it when I say I'll sell my only Long one
and I'll Keep Long for the Encore and Maybe Handi
I Planned on the Long Contender for my Granddaughter as a starter
She'll need to go with a Handi if this turns wrong

Tommyt,

All I did was ask them what was the frame originally configured as when it left the factory? Was it (1) configured as a longun? or (2) configured as a handgun?

I ask this question about two pre-G2 frames and one ProHunter frame.

They did not state anything about "all" pre-G2 frames being configured as handgun frames.

It might be a little front heavy , but why not just use the
longer barrel occasionally on the pistol and get rid of
the buttstock. There is no max length for a pistol barrel.
Without a buttstock (ever installed), its always a pistol
long or short.

WHAT?? No quick and responsive reply from a Governmental agency?? You know, I practiced as a CPA for 25 years and represented clients before the IRS over that time period.

I must say that I am truly shocked  :o AND applauded  :P (yes..both...not just one or the other) that your request as a taxpaying citizen has not received a quick and timely response.  ;D ;D ;D :D ;)

My 2 frames, a G2 bought as a rifle and a 1st generation frame bought second hand as a pistol have always held their respective status. I don't own a grip that will work on the G2.  More on the funny part, here we are worrying about what is really a dumb law in the first place shortly after the Dems in congress took 800 billion dollars of money that they will borrow from somewhere else (China?) that we will have to pay back without actually reading what they were spending the money on or that this moneys use will honestly be tracked.  With interest it will cost 1.3 trillion dollars to pay back.  It seems we should be worrying about far more important things than an inch of barrel length. The Omnibus bill was passed the same way.  I don't know if they got the money to buy all those "Toxic assets" which the banks ended up with because of stupid lending practices but really wonder why "We the People" are connected to this in any way and why should we be taxed to pay it back?  This is so much more than what the American Revolution was fought over it boggles the mind.  It's time to storm some offices with protest, tar and feathers etc.

over all  length  must also be 26 inches  not to be a handgun

i  never under stood  the 14  and 15  inch  barrels

also  just a little mor power  and less  blast

Looks like a rifle, is my 12" contender pistol still a pistol with a rifle stock?

Based on the gun that cowboy character Josh Randall carried in the 1950’s television series by the same name, Legacy Sports International announces the release of the Bounty Hunter Model 92 under their popular Puma brand. Manufactured in Italy by Chiappa Firerms, the Bounty Hunter is considered by Federal Law a handgun, not a rifle.

It’s 12 inch barrel and 24 inch overall length make it ideal as a pack gun or a nostalgia collectible. With a six round magazine, the Bounty Hunter also features a large, ¾ loop lever and the same beautiful wood and metal finish as the new line of full sized Model 92’s. Available in .45 Colt, .44-40 or .44 Magnum.

i got a J B CUSTOM  like that out of  rossi

it came  with an  ATF letter  stating it was a pistol

''mares leg pistol''  stamped on the barrel

the stock is too short to be a stock.....don't know where they draw the line

i  always wanted to do the paper work  and built one of these
and  no  logical reason why

steve mcqueenn  had   lots of legal  hoops to jump through with  his
he  carried  45-70 bullets for  show and  his gun was  1.5 inches  shorter
but  it  was  chambered for someting else

these ''mares legs''  replicer  are  longer to accomodate  6 rounds to appeal  the the  ''cowboy crowd''

mine  is  44mag.......i  added a wrist strapp incase  a hot load gets away from  me
it  is  not  near  as  good  as a revolver or  a full stock rifle
but the  kool  factor  can't  be beat

when drugs are outlawed only out laws will have drugs

I am not to sure that this settles much of anything.  It refers to a "kit" and an "parts obtained from a single source."  TC hasn't offered that kit for a long time, and most of us obtained our parts from lots of different sources.

This is in reference to your correspondence to the Bureau of Alcohol,Tobacco,Firearms And Explosives(ATF) Firearms Tec Branch in which you inquire about the configuration(s) and reconfiguration(s) of certain firearm kits which include both rifle and pistol components

These "multipurpose firearm kits"contain (but are not limited to) the following components :

 * A firearm or receiver which has not been assembled as a rifle or pistol.
 * One or more rifled barrel(s) having a length of less than 16 inches.
 * One or more rifled barrel(s) having  a Length of 16 inches or greater
 * One or more shoulder stocks.
 * One or more pistol grips.

It is the position of the ATF that if a multipurpose firearm kit containing the above-listed
components is obtained as an assemblage of parts from a single source, the components of the kit
may be assembled and subsequently reassembled an unlimited number of times as a rifle or a
pistol. Please note, however that the assembly of a rifle having a barrel length of less than
16 inches from the components of a multipurpose firearm kit would still require the submission
and approval of an ATF Form 1 "application to make and register a firearm" , this is because
short-barreled rifles are subject to the National Firearms Act

We thank you for your inquiry and trust that the foregoing has been responsive.
 Sincerely yours
John ABCD

That is the Letter I retyped it as it was written including the under lined section
I feel they consider "a Kit" as any combination of Parts from a single source
I'd say they are talking TC you have a bag of Barrels, pistol grips ,frames, shoulder stocks
they call it a Kit ,I fully explained to him about the KIT that is no longer around and
where we are TODAY with our barrels grips & shoulder stocks
This is my Letter and I'm sticking to it
Sincerely
Tommyt
