How to Find Factory Load Component Data
« on: October 24, 2008, 03:22:06 AM »
Where can I find the "recipe" for factory loads to try and replicate them?  I normally shoot Winchester USA 115 gr FMJ 9mm.  I'd like to start out by trying to replicate these loads to get the feel for reloading before I start trying other combinations.  I looked on winchester's web site but couldn't find the different components.  Is there some web site that shows bullet, powder, primer used for factory loads?  Thanks.
I'm an accountant and I carry a gun...'nuff said

Should be easy enough to get close with Winchester compotents and WW231 powder. OR--------you could use range brass, cast bullets, and something like Bullseye powder and load for about half the cost of the above combination.

The older Lyman books list a load for most rounds that they call a Factory Dup. load .

The problem is that most factory ammo is loaded with a powder that is blended and not sold to the general public , so all you can do is use a Chrono to get close to the speed that a factory load gives by using a diffrent powder .

The best advice I can give is to pick a load that is listed for the round you want to shoot and start to work from there .

Factories do not use canister powder, but buy powders in large lots so the powder from 1 lot of ammo to another does vary alittle, hence the amount of powder will vary alittle. Most powder manuals will list a load they call a factory duplication load and they will probably be the best you can do unless you have a chronograph  and crono the factory ammo and duplicate the velocities.

As mentioned, commercial loaders use canister lots of powder not usually available to the hobby reloader. There are lots of powders and compotents that will get you "similar"  factory load performance. The good advice here is to choose a midrange load from a reliable source and load it. If the pistol load you choose functions reliably and safely in your gun, that's as good as it gets. You can get there cheaply or you can go the more expensive route. Up to you. Time for me to get back on the reloader. God I love being retired!!!
