Mt. Howitzer Found

Here's an interesting (short) article of a Mt. Howitzer found near Homer Alaska. Of-course, it's Bronze and not brass as stated.

I would, but, I think the desert life has thinned my blood too much.  ;D 60 degrees is the new freeze to me.....   :D Anyway, this is the closet photo I could find. It's got good size but, not enough for markings. Maybe that can be achieved via email?

Looks like a nice find! I hope they do some nice conservation on it to stop the dreaded bronze disease.

Don't you wish you could find something like that!

If no one wants to take a shot at it, ill email and see if markings are available. I have Wayne Starks and Ed Olmstead's books. Who has the registry now?

My company has plenty of folks in Alaska. If nothing turns up, I know two guys out that way who owe me favors, if needed I could ask one of them to go check.

I just heard back from the Office of the State archaeologist. They cant discern any markings on the cannon at all yet. They are going to schedule a visit from forensic firearms folks in alaska to try to see what they are.

Yup I explained that to them. The cannon has concretion built up on it to where they cant read anything. Once they get it cleaned up a bit they should have some info. The state firearms forensic people arent to fast on getting there
