Early Contender Frame, barrels won't lock up.
« on: October 25, 2008, 01:00:41 AM »
I posted in another thread about my early Contender frame not locking up.  I took the advice of someone on that thread and took a fine stone to the locking lug of my 32 Magnum barrel.  I've got it working now, it's still a little stiff though.....

My question - Is there anything that can be done to the frame that will keep me from having to modify EACH barrel that I own?  It's not a complicated task, but it is time consuming.  I talked to Thompson Center - all they had to offer so far is to send it to them and have it converted to "Easy Open",  which will probably destroy the excellent trigger pull that this frame has.  Further, I don't know how this will help solve the lock up problem unless they actually grind some of the frame away around the lockup channel.

Any input from you guys?

I personally would send it to TC and have it converted, and have them try to fix the lock-up. The easy-open Contenders tend to have good factory trigger pulls, and are extremely easy to do trigger work to in case they "lawyerize" the trigger.

You have a lifetime with TC let them do the work and a  trigger job.I told a contender owner who was about to chuck his very loose receiver in the trash to send it to TC for repair.
