Ruger LCP
« on: October 25, 2008, 06:03:34 AM »
I've heard that Ruger LCP owners have had problems with failure to feed, etc.  The size and weight makes it attractive to me but I don't want to buy one if the bugs haven't been worked out.  If you have any experience with the Ruger LCP, I would like to know:

1.  Have you had any problems with yours?
2.  If you had a problem with yours, was Ruger prompt and effective in resolving the issue?

My son recently bought an LCP and has no problems with it whatsoever.  He asked around before buying and was told the very first LCP's made had a jamming problem but Ruger was prompt in correcting the issue and the current production seem to be free of defects.  I would advise anyone that wants one to buy new so that they don't end up having to deal with warranty returns in the event of getting a unit from the first run.  Can't find an old  one or new one to by in sw fl . Ruger told me thay shipped 50,000 and the Bass pro in Ft Myers told me that if I paid now that my name would be on a list of over 120. It dosen't look like any one can be picky about when thay are made if you can get one.

Got mine back in the summer and it has feed everything I have tried.  Have also heard reports and internet propaganda that they only last 4-500 rounds but do not believe that.  It conceals great.  For me it is a natural pointer.  The accuracy is good too once you get use to the long DA trigger pull.  I want to do some bullet performance testing before deciding on what to carry in it.  Oddly enough I was looking for a kel tech and could not find one but ran into a lcp and picked it up instead.  I have had no jams or other problems.  The rem 88gr jhp worked great and that is what it is currently loaded with.  I have some magtech 77gr solid copper hp that I have not tried yet but I like the idea of them.  I have tried and shoot the win 95 fmj for practice.  Also, I got some of the cheap but dirty monarch ammo academy sells I tried both the fmj and half jacket hp.  I think that is everthing so far. The problems were with the early pistols and it was only with a couple of different ammos.  Most recently I have been hearing of trigger bars breaking at 200-400 rounds.  This has been linked to the early ones also, and ruger has done a good job of fixing the problem quickly from what I have read.

Have not even got the chance to fire my new LCP and I find out it's been recalled. LCP's that start with the prefix 370-XXXXXX have an unsafe hammer design.
