New .30-06 JDJ!!
« on: October 25, 2008, 05:37:56 PM »
Well I just received my first t/c encore through a trade.  It has an SSK .30-06 JDJ 15" barrel with muzzle break and the T'SOB three ring base and a Burris 2x7 scope.  ALso got some reloading dies and brass and about 20 loaded rounds.  I cant wait to go shoot this thing.  Anyone have any experience with this round?  From what I have read, I shoot be getting close to what a .30-06 gets in a rifle.  Im excited!  This will be great for elk next season.

I have a 15" TC Encore 30-06 barrel with a www.probed2000.com muzzle brake,I've loaded some 150gr bullets ,55 gr of H 4831.A friend of mine who is an excellent marksman  shot it making a plastic cup dance & when I ran out of the 150gr loads I gave him some of my standard rifle hunting loads 165gr nosler solid base bullets with 58gr of IMR 4831 he immediately noticed the difference but still made the cup dance. I doubt you'll get the same velocity as a 24 inch rifle barrel.

Is this the STANDARD 30-06 chamber or the one IMPROVED by JDJ? The improved case has a shorter neck and square shoulder if I remember correctly. JDJ should have data for it if it's one of his. There are some tricks that MUST be followed to reform the cases or you can ruin them. As far as loading it down to 30-06 levels I am not sure about using such slow powders at reduced  levels, this could cause a serious problem. A call or letter to JDJ will get you a quick response. I hear that 3200fps with 150 grain bullets isn't unheard of with JDJ's round. 165's are good for about 2700 in a 15" barrel.

Give SSK industries and call or email for loading data and procedures.

I reload for the 30-06 Ackely Improved but I don't think the 30-06 JDJ has the same shoulder location.

I would re-size 30-06 Springfield cases in 338-06 A-square or 35 Whelen dies then re-size them with your 30-06 JDJ dies.

Doing this it will create a false shoulder for proper headspacing.

The best powder to use is slow burning with a least 95% capacity for excellent ignition.

Don't attempt to achieve rifle barrel velocities, better to focus on accuracy.

It's a .30-06 JDJ chamber.  I just got some reload data from him so i should be good.  I wish he listed some loads using Hidgden powders, but oh well.  Thanks guys!
