lead slugs for auto loaders

I was thinking of using led bullets for the 9mm and 45acp.Do you need to get a special expander die or can you just the one that comes in the 3 die set.Also does it led up the barrels and chambers? Thanks

I've probably put more lead through my 9mm and .45 ACP than I have jacketed bullets. I'm cheap that way, plus I inherited 2 #10 cans full of bullets - 1 each 9mm and .45 - when I got started hand loading. 

The expander die that comes in the 3-die set has always worked fine for me for both lead and jacketed.  I've also not had any problems with barrel leading in either cartridge.  Both of mine are Ruger semi-autos (P89 and P90), so as always YMMV.  I have heard that lead slugs are a problem in Glocks, but I've never looked into it as I don't own one.

  Bullet fit to the barrel is critical to preventing leading also a good lube will also cut down on leading. Are YOU going to cast the bullets or buy them? Many bullet cast makers make them way to hard so they don't get damaged in shipping. They also use a lube that can withstand shipping. I have used ww alloy for shooting in the .45auto with no problems. I am now using a slightly harder Lyman #2 alloy for target work.

I was just gonna buy them. cheaper than jacketed. More bang for the dollar  ;D ;D ;D
