mossberg international silver reserve help!!!
« on: October 26, 2008, 04:41:39 PM »
I was looking at picking one of these up used and was hoping
somebody knows about the 12 ga o/u mossberg silver reserve.
The only reviews I have read are about breaking the fireing pins.
Never owned a mossberg in my life, are the reliability issues a reality?

Mossberg has built a fine reputation for reliable guns at reasonable price, but the Silver reserve or any other of the double shotguns are not made by Mossberg. Like most other brands they stamp their name on imported guns. I don't even know where that one is made, I think perhaps Turkey? It's a bit of a shame, Mossberg was for many years known for its .22 rifles and they introduced many inovations in their .22s but today they don't even build a single .22 but sell imports under their brand name.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

They look good and feel good in my hands. But the only one I had any semblance of experience with was bought by a friend. It doubled regularly from day one. Rather than send it to be fixed he traded it back where he bought it and got a CZ made by Huglu. He's been happy since.

Guess the smart thing would be to save up a lil more
and get a lil more quality.  Dick's sporting goods stores have benilli
stf 3000 o/u on sale for $350 after rebate any thoughts?  Haven't heard of
any problems with these yet.

I don't have a clue what gun you are referring to. Benelli is owned by Beretta as is Franchi. Both Beretta and Franchi have O/U guns in their line. I thought Benelli had only pumps and semiatuo. If they now have an O/U I'm not aware of it or who might make it. At that price point unless you're getting a heck of a rebate I can't imagine how quality would be any better than the Mossberg.

the STF 3000 sold only at Dick's sporting goods are made for Stoeger in Spain. i made the mistake and bought one the end of Sept and after less then 3 boxes of shells it started to go bad and i had to bring it back to Dick's ot be sent back to Stoeger. i don't think the one year warrenty is enough so i asked for my money back. we'll see what happens?

I've had my Silver Reserve for almost 3 years. I use it for trap and sporting clays. No problems so far. I consider it to be great value for the money.

I shoot 2-5 rounds of trap per month ... it's hard to justify a $2500 O/U when a $500 works just fine for my usage.
