« on: October 27, 2008, 06:13:18 AM »
Hey guys, I just posted about getting my first encore in the .30-06 JDJ.  I was curious, how do you guys get set up for the shot?  what do you use as a rest?  what position are you normally in?  Do you use shooting sticks as a rest?  Sorry for all the questions.  Thanks guys

Lots of ?? there! If you are talking about the HUNTING shot, I set up in a ground blind. I TRY to be facing the direction a deer (or other critter) will be coming from or crossing in front of me. I usually have a bipod or even a table in the blind. That makes the shot so much easier. When going to and from the stand I have long shooting sticks that double as walking sticks. I use what ever is available to help steady ME and the gun for the shot. I ain't wyatt Earp and can't shoot "from the hip" very well! I'm not to proud to use a tree ,fence post or other natural rest in a situation where a quick shot is needed. I keep my scope on its lowest power(4x normally) till I see a deer at a distance I want more x's.

I recently made a homemade shooting stick out of hickory. I drilled a hole in the top and attached a small threaded rod 4"(2" in the hole and 2" sticking out). Then I attached a (Stony Point Brand) Threaded "rubber V" top. Basically a homemade Mono Pod. But 100% Natural looking. Just My 2 Cents...Steve
