Thermometer

I'd like to have a thermometer for my bullet-casting project, but I don't want to spend $30-50 for the Lyman or RCBS.  Is there one that I can get locally that won't cost nearly as much, yet will be effective in measuring the temperature of lead at the temperatures that it takes to cast bullets?

Get a good one from Bill Ferguson, The Antimony Man. The cheap ones are a waste of time since you don't know if they are accurate or not. BTW, the Lyman and RCBS are not good high quality ones.

check a welding supply .
to test it place it in a glass filled with crushed ice and water it should read 32 F.

I got my dial thermometer from a local HVAC distributor.

I've also gotten used thermocouple digital meters (type K) from ebay for not a lot of $.

Thanks.  I can see that I can get a digital type K off ebay with probe for under $23.

Ive never used a thermometer. Every batch of alloy needs a slightly differnt temp to run perfectly amd even every mold has a temp with each alloy it likes the best and when you get some experience it will be easy to sense that and adjust your temp.
