Has anyone tried a NC Star 2-7 pistol scope on thier Encore?
« on: October 27, 2008, 08:38:11 PM »
Hi, I bought a Simmon 4x pistol scope and the eye relief is too short for an Encore. It will work on a light caliber revolver but the encore knocks my hat off :)  I have another scope, a BSA 2-7. What I don't like about it is that if you move a tiny bit, it will white out. You must be perfectly centered or you cannot see anything. That makes if fussy to shoot on the bench and too difficult to hunt with. I don't have the bucks right now for a Burris 2-7. Has anyone had much luck with the NC Star scopes? What other scopes are out there that you like?
Since I am scope hunting, I appreciate your feedback. Thanks,

I'm from the old school that dictates the scope should be highest quality you can afford, and that means it usually costs cost more than the barrel, and often even more than the complete firearm.

That said, I reluctingly bought a NcStar 3-9 Sniper Compact with 7 (or 9?) stage illuminated reticle just to try them out a few years ago.   Put it on a 6mm carbine barrel for my Contender that I use for predator calling.   Was very surprised not only how well it worked for that application, but how clear it was and how well it held up.   Still have it although at the moment its not mounted.    So I guess if that one experience means anything, if you have to go cheap glass you could do worse than a NcStar.

One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I have several of the Nc Star 2-7 pistol scopes. Burris it ain't, BUT, they are surprisingly clear and seem to hold up well. I have one on a 6.5 x55, one on a 7mm internationalX, and one on a 250 Savage. Very satisfied with the scopes for the money.

I have the Nstar 2 x 7 pistol scope. I have found a couple of problems. The eye relief on the higher 7x is not as long as on other makes. The parallax is set for less than 50 yards which creates too much cross hair movement at any distance over 50 yards. It is okay if used on a handgun in the standing position. I bought mine for small bore silhouette and bench ammo testing and it fails at both.

I have one on an Encore 7-08.  Nice and clear, tracks well on adjustment and has stood up to 200+ rounds.  It's my 1st pistol scope and eye placement is critical especially at 7x, but I guess that's the nature of the beast.  I wouldn't hesitate to put one on something that I planned to use for target or an occasional gun.  Might think twice about putting it on a real 'working' gun that was going somewhere remote just because I'm not sure about durability but that said, it's on the pistol I'm using this season for deer around home.  For the $$$ you can't go wrong, if you get sick of it you can sell it on Ebay for most of what you paid for it. ;)

never have tried NCStars...but have had great luck with the lower line (not elite's) Bushnell 2x6 handgun scopes...they have always held up to what I have put them on plus the eye relief is good for me. and you can usually find them for $135 to $159....best value I have found.

I've have used one on my Ruger GP100 .357 mag for about 2 years. The only problem is that it has no parallax adjustment. I can't use it for precision target shooting, thus is gets used on my Ruger for offhand shooting only. If you want precision shooting at small targets or long distance, look elsewhere for a scope.

Best "cheap" pistol scopes have been the Simmons, around or a little over $100, I have 2 and they have held up on my 7-08 15" Encore..........

I have a 2-7 NC Star IER scope on my .30-30 Contender.  So far it has held up well.  I have no complaints.  I plan on using it for Whitetail in a couple weeks.  :D

I know quite a few people that have had good luck with them but the only experience I have had with onewas not so good. I got a new one (2x7 Pistol Scope) and put it on my 14" 7mm TCU on my Encore and it lasted exactly 3 rounds. The zero didn't wander, it ran around. Locked in a pistol rest at 50 yds you might hit the target (24 in x 32 inches) once out of 5 rounds. might. Sent it back for a refund and got a Burris. Been happy ever since.

I've used one but didn't care for the lack of eye relief being in the 8-10 inch range making it more of an intermediate eye relief scope than a pistol scope.  I'm using it now in a scout rifle configuration.

I had one that came on a used .35 Rem. barrel I got once. Yes, I admit they are really nice and clear...but the scope literally fell apart after 20 rounds of ammo through the barrel. (Both lenses came loose and fell out also.)They would be ok for a .22 LR or .22 Mag...maybe, but I wouldnt pay money for one. I agree with the lack of eye relief at the higher power settings and really bad parallax problems also.
