New T/C Encore
« on: October 28, 2008, 07:33:34 AM »
Hi,
I'm new to the T/C forum mostly due to my "cheap fetish" for Savage rifles. Now don't get me wrong here, I just couldn't afford a higher quality rifle at the time and Savage rifles shoot very good out of the box. But, I've been dreaming of the day I could buy a T/C ever since they first came on the market. The switch barrel single shot has always appealed to me. So, I finally bought an Encore in 50 cal and also bought a 223 barrel. Man am I impressed with the 223 out of this barrel :o. I sighted in on Monday nite and tried some shots out to 300 yds and still had a group of less than 3" O/S to O/S :o. and it's so nice to shoot. The trigger is a bit heavy but the gun just doesn't seem to move when shot. It's just amazing how nice it is to shoot from a bi-pod. Now I get to reload for it and maybe even get a better group. 8) Just had to bubble a bit. I haven't shot a rifle that shot so well yet. Only 1 complaint: stocks an inch too long but that's getting changed tonight. For the price of it it's kind of like investing in something of value. I wish I'd bought one or more 15 years ago.

I read this and had a big smile.  I went about the oposite direction.  I had an encore first, than started buying savages.  I really like both brands, but when I started hunting possibly dangerous animals (bears) I wanted a rifle that held more than one bullet.  My savage's have been more accurate than either my encore 209x50, or 30-06, but that's not trying to insult the encore.  I took my first deer with my encore 30-06 and it's got a special place in the gun cabinet.

Thanks for the comments. :)
Here in Manitoba, the black bears are fairly easy to knock over at the bait.....but they're still wild animals and can be dangerous.
I wanted the single shot to make hunting more challenging with the coyotes.
I'm pretty excited about all the possibilities the Encore has available.
The stock however was about an inch too long, so I went to work on it after work and now it fits like a glove. Had a bit of grinding and fine file work to remove the blemishes....alls great now. ;)
