Is that guy insane?  Would serve him right if Obama put him out of business, but unfortunately that would negatively impact all us gun owners as well.  What a moron.

I'd hate to be this guy and have to face up to his employees he is going to have to lay off soon. I can't imagine any decent gun owner buying a cooper after this. BTW the phone number for Cooper arms is 406 777 0373 if you would like to express  your opinion to the source. I have a feeling that thier phones are ringing off the hook and it's not positive support.

While I think it's insane for this guy to back Obama, It is still his right to choose to back whomever he decides.  Why should you call and disrupt his business just because you think differently?  It's a lot like ACORN sending in a massive amount of people to get 10.00 worth of change into pennies and then change it back.  Its rather silly.

A lot of people swore they would never again buy Ruger after Bill's comment on the assult weapons ban, yet they are still running strong...  In a couple of years people will forget about it, or he'll change the company name... That is if we can still own firearms.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

DID USA today just report a campaign finance infraction?
They said Cooper donated 1,000 dollars to a senate campaign from montana to Ill.  Thought that you were only allowed to fund campaigns for congress from your own state?
We now need to look into campaign finance scandle for Barry.

If I could afford one, I'd never buy one now.  That's a shame because they are nice.

You know Obama is going to win. We are all going to find out if he is as dangerous as feared.  My guess is he isn't.  Let's check back in about a year.

UPDATE:  I did what none of you did. I went to Cooper Firearms Website. http://www.cooperfirearms.com/

If you don't want to spend the time finding out the facts,  here is what I found.

Regarding the USA Today Article. Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc. did not contribute and does not support in any fashion the campaign of Senator Obama.

Nine months ago Dan Cooper (personally) made an online donation to the campaign in an effort to help defeat Hillary Clinton and in protest of American plant closures and the shipping of jobs overseas.  Three months ago he made yet another donation to the McCain campaign and the RNC totaling over twice that given to Obama campaign.

There is no doubt that the article in USA Today has caused a considerable response.  To this end we are encouraged and stand with our fellow NRA members and supporters of the Second Amendment and against those who oppose it.

"My guess is he isn't"   Well, that is what you are doing then, guessing. I do not understand why anyone would have to guess at this point, when we have posted his voting record several times, coupled with Biden's horrible record & a willing anti Congress who may be filabuster proof this time, wow. Yea, let's do check back in a year, that is if we are allowed to be on the internet at all.

About their website, thanks for posting, however I don't know if it is truth or their attempt to stem the tide. If it is the truth, they were stupid for putting themselves in this spot. There is no really valid reason to help an anti.

Why not wait until the whole truth about Dan is known rather than ranting like a bunch of children on only the word of newspeople and others who are jumping before getting all the facts?   I don't know what the real truth is yet, but I've known Dan and used his rifles for a lot of years and feel he deserves the benefit of the doubt until he is proven guilty beyond any doubt.    Seems like that is the American way to me instead of execution before trial.

I have been on a number of boards and have looked at this subject. Cooper only donated to the Obama campaign and lied about the McCain contribution. It is easy enough to find out and it is posted everywhere. He is the majority owner of the company and the "Board" asked him to step down is the latest story.

He only put the welfare of his workers at risk if people don't believe in democracy and believe in punishing others for how their boss votes.

I am more troubled by the message the posted to their website. That is dishonest.

One of the guys on Huntingnet emailed Cooper and got this response:

_________________________________________________________________________
"In response to the recent article highlighting Dan Cooper’s personal political donations, the board of directors, shareholders and employees of Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc would like to issue the following statement.

The employees, shareholders and board of directors of Cooper Firearms of Montana do not share the personal political views of Dan Cooper.

Although we all believe everyone has a right to vote and donate as they see fit, it has become apparent that the fallout may affect more than just Mr. Cooper.  It may also affect the employees and the shareholders of Cooper Firearms.

The board of directors has asked Mr. Cooper to resign as President of Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc.

Daily operations will continue with the competent staff currently in place in Stevensville, MT producing the finest, most accurate rifles money can buy.

Dan Cooper has spent all of his working life producing the highest quality rifles built here in the USA.  He started with nothing but the American Dream and built that into firearms company anyone would be proud of.  We firmly believe Dan stands by the 2nd amendment.
We wish him all of the best in his future pursuits."

_________________________________________________________________________

Even though Im sure he'll still see profit as a major stockholder this looks to be about the only thing Cooper could do for damage control. Lets face it...the guy isnt real bright.

It looks as if Cooper Arms is going for the duck and cover strategy - as Graybeard indicated at this time they have no response on their website. From the records it is not a one time contribution but a series of monies given over a considerable time. It makes gun rights/ owners advocates look stupid (er uneducated in liberal terms) if they are opposing Obama and his anti firearms policies - which was the point of using Cooper as the lead in the article. One would have thought the problems caused to Smith and Wesson would have given a firearms company pause about offending a large portion of the sporting community. For me as Dan Cooper is the majority owner and primary benificary of the Cooper Arms business his actions reflect the company so I have to evaluate dealers who support Cooper Arms through product sales accordingly.

I know that most people around here are not going to take this well, but I am going to ask you to think about what I am saying.

Everybody has a right to boycott anybody for any reason, but most folks outside the gun community don't understand gun owner concerns about Obama.  They are taking Obama's Second Amendment assurances at face value.   From what I have read many are viewing the extreme reaction of some in the gun community in the Cooper case as being fundamentally anti-democratic.  The boycott reflects poorly on the entire gun community.  It is easy to discount the views of a bunch of people who will eat their own at the drop of a hat.

The gun community needs to realize that we are part of the broader nation and the rest of the nation is watching.  Shouting at the moon with a clenched fist doesn't get the job done.

Obama is probably going to win on Tuesday.  The Democrats are going to be in charge of Congress.  The time of the Republicans has passed.  They might come back, but not until they find a new Reagan. Gun owners need to accept the new reality and act accordingly.  It is time to broaden the base.  We need to prove we are supporters of democracy.  We need to engage in education.

Remember one thing,  in the last year the right of gun ownership has been Constitutionally recognized by the Supreme Court,  but as with all Constitutional rights, there can be reasonable restrictions.  Our job is to make sure the public understands the difference between reasonable restrictions and overreaching.   Every time we appear to the public to be rabidly unreasonable, we will lose.

I think the Cooper boycott is ill advised.  Cooper gave gun owners an entry into the Obama camp.  That is going to be important over the next 4 to 8 years.

Ron Byers,

I am in complete disagreement with you.  Your saying that others should donate to Obama who is our sworn enemy.  Does this mean that you support payoffs?  Thats where your 'logic' leads.

What a load of sh*t.  Obama cares not for gun owners, I don't care how many turncoat Dan Coopers send him money.  Gun owners are not going to get anything from Obama but more Draconian gun control laws.  So, you go ahead and bend over and take it with a smile if you want, but I certainly won't.

The Supreme Court's decision isn't going to be in real jeopardy.  It is pretty sound, and Supreme Court Justices don't like to change decisions.  If somebody tries,  I will throw in with you.

Now as to Obama, he clearly says he believes the Second Amendment creates an individual right to bear arms. He also says that he will to protect that right when exercised by hunters and other law abiding citizens.  I guess we can just call him a liar and expect the worst. On the other hand we can hold him to his word.  Remember there is another election in 2 years.

I happen to be sick of the "sworn enemy" nonsense. This is a democracy. You can't have a democracy unless you are willing to talk and compromise.  We are all Americans.  We might have political differences, but we are not enemies.  Savage99, you might be Obama's sworn enemy but I have never read where he claims to be yours.

Thank you Bill.  I wish more people understood that but it seems to be as lost a concept as taking personal responsibility for ones actions, self reliance and so on.   :(

Graybeard you are right. We don't have a true democracy yet. What we have is a representative democracy (a republic actually) filled with politicians trying to round up votes for the elections we have every couple of years. Compromise is still the name of the game.

Ron are you trying to compete with the Obama is for outdoorsmen post? So are you saying we as gun owners should support Mr. Cooper? Even though he is  supporting someone who will be a detriment to the 2ND ammendemnt. Don't try to BS us with this wait and see aproach. I'm starting to think we have some dirty liberal Obama supporters trying to backslide people away from McCain into third partys. I have no problem believing filthy liberals will do anything be it illegal or immoral to further thier agenda. Heck anyone who thinks sucking the brains out of a baby leaving it quiver on a platter and calling it a CHOICE will do anything.

Ron Byers,
The end game of the libs and Obama and his people is simply - NO GUNS.  I have done everything I can all of my adult life to project gun ownership, shooting, and hunting as safe, responsible, in fact wholesome activities for law abiding citizens.  I act lawfully and responsibly.  I teach gun safety and taught hunter safety for several years.  I bring youngsters into the shooting sports.  I give guns (with parents' permission) to young shooters, etc. etc.  I volunteer my time.  I used to believe in reasonable compromise. It stops nothing on the anti-gun front.  Nothing.
It doesn't matter.  Obama & friends (in reality) never saw a gun control law that they didn't support.  The end game is NO GUNS.  You are naive to think otherwise.
The Supreme Court's decision on the 2nd amendment isn't going to be in jeopardy?  Wait for one or two Obama appointees to sit on the court.
You state that "he clearly says he believes the Second Amendment creates an individual right to bear arms".   You leave out the other part of what he has said though.....   that being "BUT IT IS SUBJECT TO COMMON SENSE REGULATION".  The trouble is, there is a vast difference between what Obama and friends see as "common sense regulation" and what I would interpret as common sense.
I take it then, that with all of our current thousands of gun laws, that you might believe that we are covered pretty well with regulations for our safety and that Obama and friends will hold the line approximately where we are.
With a dem majority in Congress, an Obama presidency, and an Obama appointee or two on the court, I believe the 2nd Amendment will be all but destroyed in every real or practical sense.  I don't know where you live, but I don't think you've been around these people very much.
Compromise only works if there is truth and middleground on both sides.  Like it has been stated here before - they do understand incrementalism.

CIVES ARMA FERANT - Let the citizens bear arms.
POLITICIANS SHOULD BE LIMITED TO TWO TERMS - ONE IN OFFICE AND ONE IN PRISON.... Illinois already does this.

All we have to do is to look at Obama's record, NOT what he tells us his record is.  The man is FIRMLY anti-gun!  He was against Heller until the decision came in, then need to cover his tail.

He has routinely voted AGAINST the interests of gun owners, and that says alot for a guy who's record included a LARGE percentage of "PRESENT" votes - i.e. I will be not take a traceable position.

Anyone who supports this guy deserves what they get, the rest of us DO NOT deserve the Big Brother crap he is trying.

We once had a politican who had once been an actor, we now have an actor who claims to be a politican.  Will we find out who is pulling his strings (i.e. paying his bills) once he is elected?

McCain will problay win.  He is polling better than W in the last two elections.  As far as barack hussein obama, he is a socialist, and the fallout if he wins will bring us to our knees.  I will not now, nor will i ever buy a copper rifle or any product for that matter.  They threw us under the bus!

I cant see how any gun owner can justify supporting Osama!
Mr Coopers decision to support Osama will have some ill affect on the company.
I dont support banning the company even though I feel like were betrayed .
I wish Mr Cooper would given the matter more thought and hope his support is not based on fear.

Dont know the man. Never saw one of his rifles. From what I have read on here it seem they are well made and accurate. No doubt if a man had no other choise but a single shot, Mr. cooper would be in the drivers seat. The anti gunners would be willing to put up with a single shot while they got rid of all the repeaters. Could this be coopers plan?
