Cheap source of beeswax
« on: October 28, 2008, 03:39:51 PM »
I read a message complaining about the high cost of beeswax for making your own lube.I used to cast bullets and used beeswax for flux.I found that the sealing rings sold for toilet installation were made of beeswax and were quite cheap.Haven't bought one lately but it might be worth a look.

The newer ones are not beeswax.

Craft stores like Michael's & A.C. Moore have blocks in the candle making area for about $14.99.

I got 25lbs from a bee keeper.

bees wax is getting to be rather expensive.  Even bee keepers are often reluctant to part with it, because they recycle it into formed hoey combs.

Microcrystalline wax can be used as a substitute for some uses.  I have used Cheese wax for bullet lube with good results.

My uncle used to use toilet bowl wax for bullet lube, but then he used to pick up shotgun wads and reuse them too.
