Cable stakes
« on: October 28, 2008, 06:30:19 PM »
I have been making my own cable stakes like the pogos and got to thinking, do I really need to put a eyelet on the end with the washer or can I just smash a nut on that end?

I sort of thinking you do, There would be to much on the cable when you caught a raccoon or something. The loop sort of centers load carring on the cable, with just a nut the S hook gets hooked on sideways and the swivel will not be able to its job. (I personally use number 2 chain for my stakes)

I am talking about the eyelet that is on the washer, under ground. I would still use a swivel on the top. Thanks

I don't use or sell the pogo's.But by not using the rivet, your cable will have a better chance of being cut or damaged by a trapped animal. Not only does the rivet swivel, it keeps the cable above the stake--thus no friction or rubbing against the washer.By eliminating the rivet, you may be saving a few cents, but broken or frayed cable, will end up costing you a lot more.
