284 winchester

I have a 26" 284 win barrel for my encore. I have trouble with the extractor pulling the shell out after the shot. Anyone have any ideas on how to correct this, or is the rebated rim always going to do this ? Thanks

My .284 did the same thing. I bent the extractor up just a little and the problem was solved. It's worth a try, just don't over do it.

captdave,
Let me be the first to say, Welcome to Graybeard Outdoors.
Like Tony G said, try to bend the extractor, but with the rebated rim you are going to have this problem.

Something about this kept me thinking there was more to just bending it. I checked tonight and saw that I had to remove the extractor and grind a little off the bottom of the shank so it would not rub as hard on the casing. When it was bent enough to grab the extractor groove it would not clear the case enough when pulling the case from the chamber, or putting a new case in. Hence I ground some off the shank to allow it to spring out of the way. This may be different than yours since my 284 is a rechamber from a 7mm08.
I hope this made sense.

I called TC and they are sending me a new extractor. I did bend the old one but it was tight, so I may try grinding a little off.

Put the new extractor in and it works fine.
