drilling a Laminate riser???
« on: October 30, 2008, 06:32:06 AM »
I have an older Bear compound bow that has an arrow rest that just sticks onto the riser like a sticker. I'd like to use a WiskerBisquit but there are no holes to mount it. Can I drill holes and mount one without hurting the bow?

Its funny you asked this question.

I have a Bear Brown Bear dual round wheel compound bow, with laminated wood riser and maple/fiberglass laminated limbs.

I had my riser drilled and an threaded insert installed so I could use a plunger rest back in the 1990's.

These modification hasn't hurt anything about my bow, and I have taken deer with it since the mod.

I want to paint it though other than using tape, since it has a gloss finish.

Thanks. That's the info I was looking for. As far as the gloss I thought about on dulling it with steel wool.

Sounds like a good idea.  I like the look of the wood, but not the gloss.

Do you have the same bow are me?

You can certainly drill and install a threaded bushing into a Laminated riser.  But I don't think you will have adequate clearance to use a
whisker Biscuit rest.  If memory serves me well, it probably has about
3/8 " past center riser and you will need a minmum of 1/2 to 3/4" cleareance.  good luck.....
