Talk me out of another handi 30-30 this time
« on: October 30, 2008, 10:21:25 AM »
I've recently purchased a Magnum research BFR in 30-30 win, thus I've been on the lookout for a rifle that'll digest my stiff spitzer loads I shoot in the revolver and still display good accuracy.

As some will remember I've owned handi's in the past but have never been pleased with their inconstancy's however all these were in rimless chamberings. So talk to me about the NEF performance when chambered for that most classic of 30 cal cartridges

I have two 30-30s, one of em I hand rechambered to Ackley Improved, they both shoot excellent with factory or handloads as do all 30-30 Handis, it's one of the most reliably accurate of all H&R chamberings.  ;) The Ackley is loaded to ~60kpsi in 375Win brass, not for the average handloader tho, kinda of work intensive to form and then neck turn, but the rewards are worth it. ;D

You can't argue with groups like that.  A 30-30 Handi is on my want list.

A 30-30 is considered one of the best cartridges there is for the Handi. To me, it just seems to fit the intended purpose of the break open rifle.

I was never happy with my older .44 mag, which ended up to be overbore, but when I got my .30/30 barrel I became a Handi fan.  Thats what I'm hunting with now and I have a 7-08 in the safe.

Gee guys, I think we're failing miserable.  He wanted us to talk him out of it.

I tried to come up with some reasons to NOT buy a 30-30 Handi...

Couldn't come up with any. ;)

Don't buy one they are boring to shoot always hitting what you aim at, Drop whitetails right there, fairly low recoil, cheap ammo everywhere and easy to reload for with pointy bullets an option. Nope don't buy one they have no redeeming qualitys. ::)

Lol... Sorry we can't help talk you out of one... that's what wives are for ;D
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

You don't want results like.

I would recommend buying the "latest" hot caliber that I see in all the magazines.  The deer will sure know that it was killed with a new $1000 rifle & a $50 box of ammo.
That 30-30 won't let the guys at the gun go oohhh or ahhhh.  Those ones that you will never see again.
