They said a coyote crossed the road in front of them. Both carried large bolt guns, I think .300 and '06.  No hunter orange.  I said "Come to the house and ask permission.  You may have strayed into the path of a .45-70."  They left, all ticked off.

Slobs like that just make it tough on legitimate hunters looking for a place to hunt.  Come to my door, and unless we're "booked", I'll take you out myself and show you the best spots.  People who climb my fences may somehow hurt themselves.  There's a lot of lead in the air around here.

I know what you mean about trespassers. We have people going in the woods and cutting down trees, hunting, riding four wheelers that never ask permission. They act like it is their own and when you call them on it, they act like you are Satin.

So Pete..
You say you like your 45-70... I hadn't herd, its a good thing they don't shoot good at long range. ::) ::) ;D ;)

Just funnin' with you, I love it too... I carried a bullet with me for years.. So much so that when we changed the "codes" at the gun store I was at, they gave me that as a code to get in!!!  ;D

I usually tell trespasser's to get lost or I'll send out the dog...

 ;D ;D ;D

I can't wait to get a 45/70... here in MO you say you want one and everybody thinks your crazy lol... not too many elk or griz sloggin around the swamps and bogs down here ;D

And tresspassers... Geez... I found a guy hunting in my spot once... (My dad was almost hit by a stray bullet from one of this guy's friends shooting at a running deer on a ridge on our place the day before.)
I ran this guy off our place and pissed him off sooo bad (My blood was still a bit warm from the previous day) that he returned later on a 4 wheeler w/ 4 of his friends looking for me.  By that time my dad and brother had found me and we had a dandly little verbal exchange w/ these trespassers.  When I pulled out my phone and dialed the sherriff, things settled down... Just like you fellows said, if they would just ask, there wouldn't be a problem.

What are you guys talking about I got a younger guy at work who says my 45/70 is so slow that at 200 yards he could reach out and catch the bullet because its moving too slow. :D  I told him if he wanted to catch it he could but I'm not volunteering.  He's one of those guys who thinks anything slower than a 7 mag is a waste of time.  Just thought you guys would get a laugh at this comment like I did.

I'm scared of big dogs. Got bit by a pitbull at a young age and never got over it.I believe my 45/70 would win.

I'd rather have one of my four .45/70's than a 7mm anyday. If a .45/70 won't do it I don't need to be huntin' it!!

What I love about the ,45-70 is that you can shoot, take a sip, and then take a look when the bullet arrives.  It's not in a big hurry, but it gets the job done and if you can see it, you can hit it. ;)

I've got a dog that's boxer, great dane and pit bull.  He's really a people and animal lover, but he's 95 pounds of fury if anyone is threatened or he's told to "get 'em".  I wouldn't put him on trespassers, 'cause I know they'd shoot him.

Rex, how's yours shooting?  I can't see any difference between the two barrels, they both seem excellent.

For the rest of you guys, a while back, Rex and I traded his .45-70 extractor for my ejector.

In the early 90's  Dad put in a Mobile home on some property  way back in the sticks. I was putting the pump in the well and running the water line. the power company had 5 guy there putting in poles for The power lines. the foreman from the power company ask Dad if they could shoot deer ? Dad said yes, but I had first choice. Well after a short discussion, it was obvious we were after two different deer. He wanted a trophy, I wanted a fat yearling eating deer. While we were eating lunch, Dad whistled and pointed over the hill. There was a deer eating apples under an apple tree. Binoculars revealed it was a very young spike. The deer was about 225 yards out. I set down beside a cedar tree, rested my rifle on the fence and waited for the deer to turn where I could get a decent shot. In the mean time, Dad, my step Mother,my little Brother, my Wife, my Son and the five guys from the power company had fell in formation at parade rest behind me. No pressure on this shot 8). After what seemed like 2 hours (really just about 2 minutes) the deer turn broadside. At about the same time the guy from  the power company leaned down and whispered "that is a long ways do you want my 300 mag" I cocked the hammer on my handi rifle, put the cross hair at the top of the deer's back. And launched a 300 grain sierra hollow point. The deer made a long jump, and collapsed when he landed. So yes you can catch a 45-70 bullet at 200 yards, but you won't enjoy it ;D
