Sell me on a T3 Lite .243

I'm really thinking I'd like to get one of these. Probably the blued barrel.  2008 models are soon to be sale priced, some already. I'd like to hear the PROS and cons from you owners if you don't mind.

I have a new 22-250 Tikka T3 Lite hunter, 1/2 groups at 100 yards so far with WWB ammo. Great trigger, super smooth bolt. Have a Tikka T3 308 Varmit too..........great rifles..........

I do not intend to try sell you a T3, IMHO they sell themselves. I have bought one a year for the last 3 years. Accuracy is excellent, with handloads my 223 varmint and 243 light will cut a sub 1/2" group. My 308 can't do that, but it is a deer rifle and still .7" isn't too bad. I personally love the stock, light and rigid and the silent synthetic magazine. Many hate the plastic, I say after 3 years hunting these rifles, do not fear the plastic, it is actually good quality synthetic. Triggers and bolts are as good as it gets.
Cons, I don't think the bluing is up to much. I have a few stains on 2 of my barrels, not rust, stains. That is the one thing I'd improve on them.

I reload 55gr, 60gr and 85gr bullets for my T3 243, the 100 yard target is representative of how it shoots. That is not the best group, just one I had a photo of. My T3 Varmint in 223 does the same thing, the 308 can't quite keep up with this but is still fine. My wife has a Rem in 243, it also shoots well. My preference is still the T3, nothing to do to it but clean the barrel before you shoot. The Remington option would also shoot well but.....you would probably have to spend time on the trigger first.

Price
Accuracy
Quality

Don't know what your price is... I got my .308 for $396
Don't know what you expect... my .308 does under an inch with Federal Power Point 150's
Probably not the highest quality firearm ever made but mine is smooth and easy to use.  More than meets my needs.

Just go buy it.  You won't be dissapointed.

Well thanks guys. I gotta confess though, I was pretty much already sold anyway.  ;)  Just wanted to get further input. I'm gonna have to sell off a couple first to be able to do this. It'll be wearing a Deadnutz mount and Leupold VXII 4-12x40 when it's finished. Oughta be a real bragger.

Looks like I'll be ready to place an order at the end of this week. I'm torn between the Hunter and the Lite now. Any help? Stocks are not that important, I do like the synthetic for a carry gun though. Internals are what concerns me about the two right now.

I'm on the same adventure as you are. After many delays due to relocating and buying a home, I am going with a Tikka 7mm-08 ... probably a "Hunter." Crazy as it sounds, I have already bought brass, bullets, dies, etc for it and I will start reloading some rounds today. Keep us posted on your purchase and the results from the range.

Ordered the T3 Lite .243 yesterday, sticking with the original plan. Gonna hunt this one quite a bit so the synthetic stocks are what made the decision for me. DeadNutz mount will be next, but in the meantime I do have some decent Leupold rings I may use. Rifle season opens here in OK tomorrow, lasts for 16 days. Rifle should be here early next week, so I may get to down one with it this season!

Does anyone know if they make this rifle in a "smaller stature" stock?  I am looking for something just like this for my daughter, but she will never fit into a full size stock.  She is already sold on the .243.  Just trying to find the right rifle for her.

A saw and a grind to fit recoil pad would work. I did this for my wife on a Winchester 20 gauage shotgun, I am no carpenter but it looks fine.

I'm certainly not going to be one to take anything away from Tikkas at all........................but an alternative might be one of the Weatherby Vanguard Youth packages. Comes with two stocks, one for the "little" days and one for later on. Check it out here.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I will check it out.  She will never need the "later on" stock, as she is as big as she is going to get.  She is simply on the small side.  She is a great shot though, and I want to get her some quality equipment that actually fits her.

I have a T3 stainless lite in 308
very, very accurate, sub 1/2 groups, one ragged hole
also have 2 Sakos, a new 85 Finlight 270 and a '59 Forrester in 243
the latter I cut the stock down and put a grind to fit pad on it for my son (11) to use

Sako and Tikkas use the same barrel, have the same great trigger performance,  and both are extremely accurate and utterly reliable
the Tikka is a much better value
