308 chamber question
« on: November 01, 2008, 05:47:05 AM »
My 308's chamber allows a unfired round to wobble around a small but noticeable amount when i push the round pass the ejector pin. I can move it with my fingertip. I have not tested accuracy but is this normal? Has anyone have experience with this.

There has to be some clearance. The question is how much? Your "small but noticeable amount" isn't too objective. If you are concerned you should measure and/or cast the chamber to be sure. The difference between a SAAMI max chamber and a SAAMI minimum round can seem like a lot and isn't the ideal situation but it is safe.

It's probably normal.  The chamber in my Encore 30/06 is like that with full length sized cases but accuracy is excellent.  Match chambers are tighter and there wouldn't be so much wobble.

The most important thing is that the headspace is correct which has nothing to do with side to side movement.  Shoot your gun and if you accuracy is satisfactory, don't worry about it.
