removing permanant front site

I bought a 10" bull in 223 with front site and weaver base  it is older and I can see no way to remove the front site.  it appears either epoxied or welded on  any ideas on getting it off

I have an old T/C muzzloader and encountered a similar problem.  Had to drive the blade out of the dovetail to expose the screw, not sure but might be trick...Steve

front site is one solid piece and only about 1/4" wide with no visible dovetail for it to fit into

I would call or e-mail T/C on Monday and ask them. They have been good at answering my questions. My T/C front sights could and have long since been removed.

I have a couple of the old ones, and if you look at the barrel from the business end you will see a flat is machined on the top of the barrel for the sight.  I don't know how the sight is attached.  I did hear they are silver soldered in place.  If removed they leave a flat spot on the barrel that I would think is unsightly, so I just left them on.  I don't see the sight in the scope.

Yep they're silver soldered and Keith's right on the flat spot.  I saw one for sale at a gun show recently that had been removed....wasn't pretty.  GOOD SHOOTIN',  Walt  :)

The front sight is silver-soldered on to the barrel. I removed them by CAREFULLY heating with a propoane torch until the sight fell off. You do not want to overheat and damage the barrel. The bluing on the barrel might have to be touched up. I did this many years ago playing around with different front sight blade widths and heights. I still have a couple of front sights in my junk box.

Good info above.  Silver soldered is correct.  I leave mine in place.  I have had scopes from Lobos and 2x on up.  Never had a problem leaving the sight in place.  Did have one sight that tried to hang up on stuff once in a while.  A sight hood off a winchester snapped on nicely and didn't bother the view from the scope either.
