I began my habit with a .45/70 then added the .30-30, the .243, and .223.  I stopped there for a time.  Someone gave me two boxes of .450 Marlins...don't know if I want that barrel or not. 

With iron sights, it was a sweet shooter.  I just broke down and put a 2.5X Weaver scope on it.  Wow!  That rascal makes very nice clover leafs at 75 yards!  [Only range I can drive to in Southern MD and max is 80 yards pushing it - but we are a slug county for deer here].   The .45/70 and the .30-30 are two of the tightest shooting guns I have - and I have nailed a boar and deer with the .30-30.  Now this year, it will be the big guy.   ;D

the  marlin XLR  sure  looked good and  a 45-70
also   i just couldn't beat  the plain jane blue and wood handi 45-70 [may chop it to 16 inches  just to see what happens]
