Wheel weights will do fine, just be sure that you don't melt zinc weights in with them. Depending on what your net weights are, they should be o.k. to add to the w/w when you are casting.
Yes you'll be well served by getting a book or two, Lyman makes a good one.
I use a 158 grain Lee gas check mold for my .357, and it works for me, but I have begged a few different bullets from others over the last few years... I seldom hunt with mine, but I do carry it and shoot it a lot...
