making a trap setter for the Duke #5 double longspring trap
« on: August 10, 2003, 04:16:31 AM »
:D Hi:

I see that  Duke will be coming out this year with a #5 double longspring trap for Beaver. It sounds like it will be a good trap . Has anyone had a chance to see it yet?  Also, does anyone know if a trap setter is going to be made to fit that trap?

                                                                       Thanks,

I have heard that also, but didn't get a commitment from Duke on "when"......
I f they continue to upgrade their traps in the manner of the past,I am sure the trap will be a great affordable trap.(with crappy chain,LOL!)
Since I know of few people with the hand strentgh to set fives,I am sure Duke will have a setter,or you could use one of the commercially available ones now on the market.Personally,I don't recommend the one you step on,unless you are trapping on hard-pan.
As for the 11's,I can no longer use any longspring trap(used them for 30 yrs)but if I remember correctly, all I did for tuning was, bend the jaw dogs up,de-wobble the pan, square the pan notch and dog end,and then bend the dog slightly up or down depemding on your set(down in water,up in dirt so you have commitment before snap.)

Edge:

I think the #5 Duke will be on the market sometime in September of this year.

Edge says " I know few people with the hand strength to set a # five."

Why? I can do it and I am no where near a big man. I just can not understand why everyone who has at least some power can't do it.
I honestly think that it is all psychological, you think you can't, therefore you don't allow yourself to set it.
