Need Help with Sling for G2
« on: November 02, 2008, 02:01:21 AM »
I have a 14 inch 7x30 barrel with the swivel for the sling attached to the barrel.  Where do I get the part so I can attach a swivel to the pistol grip?

Uncle Mike's has a Contender sling kit that I use with the swivel bolt for the grip.  If your front swivel is a band that clamps to the barrel I recommend that you remove it and put a swivel in the forestock.  The clamp on swivel can affect harmonics and change the way your barrel shoots.

Uncle Mike's kit can be hard to find.  Fox Ridge Outfitters has them.  The kit takes care of the grip and the forend. GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt  ;)

for the G2....you will have to cut length down on the sling kit stud for the old contenders, but it will work.
the new pacmayr grips come with stud installed. they are out now for G2's i'm pretty sure.

I am having the same problem...I bought the kit from my local gun shop and when I went to install it, the bolt for the grip portion is too long.  The kicker is, the threaded portion is not long enough to cut down to make it work.  I'll check out Fox Ridge Outfitters or the Uncle Mikes offerings.  The one I purchased was made by Weaver.

Oh..,those notorious barrel band sling studs.....they will screw up your gun sometin' terrible........WHOA there Kingfish!!!  No offense to anyone one, but I got to dissagree,at least to some extent.  My most accurate barrel for well over 15 years has been my 6.5JDJ.  For almost all that time it has sported a barrel band sling stud.  Has it affected the way it shoots?  Yes, I'm sure it has affected the POA to some extent but once that was adjusted for, it again becomes a death ray.
My son and I used to have weekly sunday morning shootin' "matches" with our Contenders.  I usually used the aformentioned 6.5, and he used his 14" factory 7-30 Waters barrel that was equally(well, almost) accurate.  I shot off sand bags and he shot with a Harris Bi-pod attached with one of those gosh awful looking barrel clamps.  Shooting at one hundred yards, it was unusual for both of us to not be easily MOA or better.  Where the band or clamp is mounted on the barrel may have quite an effect on the harmonics.  Just like the Sims resonator, it may tighten groups at one location and enlarge them at another.
GOOD SHOOTIN',  Walt  ;D

I called Uncle Mikes  this morning which is owned by Bushnell in Kansas 1-800-423-3537 for the sling & grip stud & fore end swivel setup for my encore they have been discontinued but they still have some in their warehouse so I bought 2 to go with the one I bought from TC, ask for Mr Poston!
