Oh..,those notorious barrel band sling studs.....they will screw up your gun sometin' terrible........WHOA there Kingfish!!! No offense to anyone one, but I got to dissagree,at least to some extent. My most accurate barrel for well over 15 years has been my 6.5JDJ. For almost all that time it has sported a barrel band sling stud. Has it affected the way it shoots? Yes, I'm sure it has affected the POA to some extent but once that was adjusted for, it again becomes a death ray.
My son and I used to have weekly sunday morning shootin' "matches" with our Contenders. I usually used the aformentioned 6.5, and he used his 14" factory 7-30 Waters barrel that was equally(well, almost) accurate. I shot off sand bags and he shot with a Harris Bi-pod attached with one of those gosh awful looking barrel clamps. Shooting at one hundred yards, it was unusual for both of us to not be easily MOA or better. Where the band or clamp is mounted on the barrel may have quite an effect on the harmonics. Just like the Sims resonator, it may tighten groups at one location and enlarge them at another.
GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt
