the most regressive tax is the SALES tax that everyone pays you have to give the government 5-10% just to spend your money. It is an unfair tax as it targets the poorest the heaviest. the c.e.o. who invests or saves 75% of his money pays no taxes on it the family living hand to mouth pays a full 5-10% on every penny they make and spend.
I disagee that a sales tax is regressive and costs the poor. By not taxing all necessities and taxing only the wants, those that spend more on wants are taxed, not the poor spending money for needs. By not taxing the poor, they will be able to save whatever is left over for betterment. The wealthy already pay the most in taxes under the income tax laws currently, but the poor also pay on income. If one want so save their money to get ahead, it can be done. If the wealthy wants to spend their money on comfort goods and services, they will be taxed according to their spending habits. How would a flat tax be more progressive? If everyone paid a flat tax, the wealthy would not pay more, they would just pay less and have more money in their pocket. The poor people would pay the same as a wealthy person and still have to spend on necessities. Where is the progressive nature of a flat tax? or income tax?
