.366" and gas checks question
« on: November 03, 2008, 05:09:37 AM »
For an 9.3X74r, what are the options for gas checking a cast bullet?
For a double rifle, I am looking to shoot a 286grn cast bullet at full jacketed velocity to maintain regulation. I do not see .366 gas checks listed anywhere.
I would prefer to use my Star sizer, but have a Lyman if needed.
Thanks,
Carl

I'd try paper patching those slugs. I do NOT know if the checks are made for that caliber. Maybe some one on Cast Boolits does.

These guys often have a "group buy" on molds and checks A guy named "GATOR" makes them.

If you order an LBT mold, which I will cut to fit your rifle(s) I set the bullets up for 375 caliber gas checks, which work flawlessly.  35 caliber checks will not work if diameter gets over about 362.

If you'd like to order an LBT mold, you can look at our listings, and contact me at   LBTMoulds.com

I'll cut a mold with any nose profile listed, in whatever weight and diameter you want.

Thanks Veral, my rifle in being shipped.
Will the .375 checks on a .366 bullet cause any issues with the Star sizer going nose first, using a pusher plug with your spec'd cupped design?
An 286 grain LFN @ 2200 fps should be about right?

I have written another post dealing with 366 gas checks, but having one specifically aimed at the matter is good.

Use 375 gas checks.  To do so you'll have to have me make the mold, which I set up specifically for the purpose.  If you send me a swaged soft lead throat slug so I can fit the rifles throats precisely with a strongly designed bullet, and if you use LBT bullet lubricant, you should have no problem getting good hunting accuracy at full power.  I have many satisfied customers who have, none that haven't been able to regulate their rifles perfectly, non that I know of that is.
