anyone have a new or newer SPEER load manual/25-06 info needed
« on: November 03, 2008, 01:19:01 PM »
Hi.
The newest speer manual I have is #12 I have never had any conflict or trouble until today.
I am going to load some Speer 87gr TNT HP bullets for 25-06 and I like to check a couple manuals first
but Speer manual and Speer bullets should be fine right ??? Well Hodgdon web site says 54.5
of H4350 is max Speer says 54.0 to a max of 58.0 of H4350 ???
Any one have a newer manual that can tell me what they have listed?
also my other stand by Sierra does not list the H4350 for their 87 bullets.
I now I will need to work up but this sure is a big  jump from Hodgdons max to Speers max.
If anyone also has a good load they like with this bullet please share.
Thanks Kurt

What you have seen is very very common - different manuals will always (99%) have different maximum loads.  This is not just because of the different bullets but also because of different test barrels, different cases, different primers, and different lots of the same powder.  Just because the Speer manual says that 58.0 grains is max does not mean that it is safe in your rifle with your components.  You are wise to start low, but I'd start at 52 grains...what if your lot of H4350 is as fast as Hodgdon's?   :o

The Lee manual just lists data they take from other manuals - they do not do their own pressure/velocity testing.  Looks like they copied Hodgdon data this time, not a bad choice.

I have had no real problems with the #12 data but this that I listed looked a little
hot compared to every one else.I have not had time to test yet.
