LOS ANGELES -- California voters have approved a constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage that overturns the state Supreme Court decision that gave gay couples the right to wed just months ago.

The passage of Proposition 8 represents a crushing political defeat for gay rights activists. They had hoped public opinion on the contentious issue had shifted enough to help them defeat the measure.

It also represents a personal loss for the thousands of couples from California and others states who got married in the brief window when they could. Legal experts have said it will have to be resolved in court whether their unions still are valid.

Fox news this morning reported that California's Prop 8 that defines marriage to be between a man and a woman was approved by voters.  In addition, 3 other States also approved similar definitions of marriage.  These oppositions to gay marriages in the US will and must be someday resolved in the Supreme Court.  Some states permit it, most do not.  So a national conflict in legality is apparent.  Gays had desired to use California as a stepping stone to convince the rest of the Nation of its PC and standing under the Constitution, which would prevent discrimination against them by law.  It is my belief and conclusion, though I mostly disagree with Californian voters that this time the choice is correct.  I tip my hat to those who voted for the ban, which will now become part of Californias Constitution.

 I can't  even count the number of times they have banned Gay Marriage in Calif .
 Just to have some LIB judge over turn it . I lived in Calif for 40 + years and moved out of the the peoples republic of California to N.Utah 3 years ago. Don't know how i ever survived living  that many years there.  I can understand why  Californian's have such a bad reputation .  Full of left wing NUTS !!!!!!!!!!

    There is no discrimination against them  , a Gay male can  get married to a women just like you and me , he can vote , hold down a job and do everything we can .  I have worked with dozen of gays over the year while driving a truck in California and always treated them like everyone else . But i would never hang out with one or condone there life style . It's just sick and wrong , no gray area to me

 The pro gays  sure showed their ugly colors , and i can't believe some of the hatred shown towards the yes on 8 people . My son in-law and daughter were handing out signs and calling people and part of the yes on 8 group and saw it first hand . Very nasty ant-prop 8 group of people . Freedom of speech is only OK if its the LIBS view .

This is SWEET!! My son-in law got tiered  his prop 8 signs always being stolen and desecrated, so he installed a security camera and caught the whole thing two times on tape....then he saw the guy later that had done it the 2nd time at an anti-prop 8 rally in town, and interviewed him on camera, but the guy didn't know that he was the owner of the house and sign he destroyed.  He found out his name and could actually have the guy charged with vandalism.

In Calif. the gays have already contacted the ACLU about lawsuits because they dint get their way.

In California gays have all the legal rights a non-gay person enjoys.  Every single one.  This includes visitation rights, inheritance rights, etc., etc. etc.

The gays just didn't "feel" right about not being able to marry.  But didn't (and don't) care about the desires of "straights."

Personally I feel NON-gay citizens are entitled to "feel" right about their feelings concerning marriage as well.  In addition the "straight" community did not want THEIR marriages and vows to be changed by people they don't agree with YET THEY'VE STILL AFFORDED THESE GAYS ALL LEGAL RIGHTS.

If the gays weren't such pigs about it they might have won.

I was listening to rush Limbaugh Wednesday.  He was saying that the reason the propositions against gay marriage were passed was due to the good turnout of blacks who were voting for Obama.  It seems that the exit polls showed that the majority of whites voted against the bills and the majority of the blacks voting for it made the difference!

Here is the rub with that.  In California and Alaska, gays by law are entitled to all benefits as domestic partners that married couples have.  But they do not have that marriage protection and benefit rights if they move to another state.  Gays want the States to recognize married rights so they move about the country with all the protections and benefits as married couples by forcing other States to recognize the marriage from another State.  This I disagree with.  Alaska has a law also that limits marriage as between a man and woman, so domestic cohabitation unlike marriage, does not interfere with other States rights as gays move elsewhere.
