Marlin 30-30 Trigger Adjustment

My brother has a new Marlin 30-30 lever action and is disappointed with the trigger pull. Does anyone have a procedure for adjusting them? Or is it something that a gunsmith should preform?

You can't adjust the trigger.
A gunsmith can to a trigger job.
Or, you can buy a Wild West Happy Trigger Kit for $70-$80.
Kits are available at many internet stores including Midway.
The kits are very easy to install and will give you a really nice 2.5-3.5 crisp trigger pull.

I know many guys who think the kit is too expensive because they have a local gunsmith to
to a trigger job for $30. However, if you don't have the local smith, the kit is the only way to go
I've installed 3 of them and have never heard a bad report on installation or the results.

I've stoned mine, v-e-r-y carefully with a fine grit Arkansas stone.  You just want to polish the seer and full cock notch on the hammer, but don't change the geometry between them.  The trigger can lighten up to the point of being scary, so watch what you are doing.

My bet would be that by including language about having a gunsmith intall the parts the maker is shifting responsibility for accidents to the installer.  Sadly these days one almost has to.  Years ago I did lots of triggers for people.  Now I don't dare.  But I did my own Marlin trigger, and all it needed was polishing, like a previous post said.

Hey Guys,

   Waita minute.   This s a brand new Marlin.  Before I started any type of trigger work, I would buy and load it with a snap cap (I guess its a 30-30?), and dry fire it at least 1,000 times.  I have found that these triggers will smooth up very nicely with use.   Even though it may be a little heavy, if it is really smooth, it will feel 100% better.
