My 77 MKII SE is in 35 whelen and it has always made two holes in every animal I have shot with it. One going in and one going out. I have tried others but now the only bullet I use is the 250 gr. speer hotcor. They work good for me.
I do have a hawkeye but it is a 338 wm. Other than the trigger the hawkeye is no different than the 77 mkII's.

Actually, the stock is trimmer with a tendency to break at the wrist under heavy recoil - as Ruger found out with the .375 Ruger.

I bought my wife a 35 whelen in August she shot a eight point buck last Saturday with it, it never took another step but she was pretty close also.

That 375 that the stock split on, was that synthetic or wood.

Wood for sure but I think they had some problems with the Hogue synthetic stock (Alaskan) as well.
