The Marlin 983T
« on: November 06, 2008, 03:11:20 PM »
I'm not expecting too many responses because I haven't seen much mentioned about this rifle.  It occurred to me that, apart from the method of feeding, the actions/barrels were the same as the 925. So, my question, does anyone want to comment on the Marlin 22 WMRs?  I just got one and am looking forward to take it fox and varmint hunting.

I bought it specifically because of the tube mag.  As the result of a post on another board, I did some digging and found Dednutz mounts.  Apparently the model made for the 925 should fit the 983 as well. I'll be putting an Elite 3200 2-7x32 on it.

I had one for a while, it shot VERY well with the lighter bullets, 30-35 grains.  With the 30gr CCi's, it was one hole at 75 yards, and Winchester Supreme 34gr shot just as well.  I had a couple of one shot kills on pop cans  ;D out to 175yds with both of them, but you have to know the trajectory pretty well.  ;)  The 40 grain loads didn't shoot as well, but they were all consistent groupers, regardless of brand, and they shot to the same point of impact.  The 50gr CCI Gold Dots shot one ragged hole at 50 yds, I never shot them further than that, but that's what I had in the gun when I was more concerned about coyotes than varmints.  I had a Redfield Golden 5 Star 3-9x40 on mine.

I will.  When the weather warms up just a tad (it's a cold wind) I'll be out with it.  This pic is taken from the front of my house looking towards the field.  Except for plowing snow, no work, just play out there until spring.
