Bean counters have taken over the world and please don't tell me, the Potterfield's aren't making a very lucrative living at this.

I contacted midway about their shipping and mentioned how www.bivwak.com (go to hunting & shooting & click then to reloading and click which will show ammo & bullets plus other items to buy or bid on)uses flat rate shipping, I was told they are working on setting this up for their customers!

After reading all of this thread I went to midway & midsouth and filled carts on both using the same shopping list:

1000 Remington Primers Large Rifle
1000 Remington Primers Small Rifle
1000 Remington Primers Large Pistol
1000 Remington Primers Small Pistol

1# IMR 4350
1# another power (i forget)

I any event the difference between the two websites were less than $2, not adding shipping to the prices.

I have ordered from both in the past, but normally order from Midway. I have nothing against Midsouth. I have to pay the 8.5% Tennessee sales tax if I order from Midsouth plus the shipping. Midway is shipping only.

Midway said they were out of stock on the 1000 Remington Primers Large Rifle last week. Maybe they just got them in.
Edit: my bad, they are out of 1000 Winchester Primers Large Rifle

I can stand the price differences but when they add a"handling" charge-that is nothing but a gouge and I will not pay it or do business with business who charge it. I have told Midway how I feel.

Midway has great customer service and a HUGE selection. It's efficient because the website is user friendly and it also allows me to keep a "wish list" of thing I order frequently. I buy local alot but if I have a list of thing Midway has all of those things and I don't have to stop at 3 different local shops. I also appreciate the "operation round up" that rounds up your purchase and sends that portion to the NRA. I just used Midway's Veteran's day sale and got a Burris Scout Scope for $196 and some change.

I understand that you don't like the small order charge, but try to be fair and understand where they're coming from. They have to pay someone X an hour & costs them an amount of money to get your items out of inventory and on the truck. They try to spread those costs out but for a $5 item it may cost them $25 to get it on the truck.

I don't know if that's making much sense to you, but in any case they aren't trying to make a lions share on small orders, they are trying to cover their costs.

Ted, it's my understanding that their system has very few actual people on it, mostly computerized? That's what shown on their commercials, anyway. I think it's just an extra charge and bean counters are in charge?

It is so far a pretty free country and one can buy where he wants. Many companies have fixed shipping fees, some graduate upwards with weight or cost, some have handling fees - do the math. It's not hard or too difficult. Look on the positive side - at least we can buy on the internet - that may change.

I patronize the companies that give me good service, have the items I want in stock and ship promptly.
Also, I patronize companies that promote the shooting sports and are active in shooting and preservation organizations or TV shows. I am not usually looking for the lowest dollar. I believe in establishing good relationships and have been doing business with many of the same companies for over 50 years.

We are all in the same game and if we hope to grow and survive we must pull together.

Personally, I don't think negative posting about any company is helpful. Buy where you want. Establish your own relationships. I have mine.

Saving that last penny is not everything. Good customer service is more important to me as well as selection in stock, not just dropshipped.
Midway is one of several of those companies for me.

Midway USA offer great customer service, prices and actual shipping charges.

If that wasn't enough they offer a discount during your entire birthday month on every item.

You may not be getting the e-mails and sales if you're not signed up to receive them. I get e-mails from them with sales on it all the time and also on my birthday.

You have register with them on-line and they send out emails for sale, tells you when something on your wishlist is on sale.
-When you are logged in on your birthday month you will see the price changes on everyitem.

Been there done that. Don't get me wrong, I've given Midway a ton of business over the years but, that special handling charge is the straw that broke the camel's back, for me. I see it as simply gouging customers. Maybe Larry should buy a few less commercials on the Outdoor channel and go back to giving customers a fairer deal? Someone mentioned earlier in this thread about Midways looking into a different shipping deal, I know nothing of this but they sure could improve my attitude, if this happened. Still think there is a bean counter in this program, maybe the son that's on their commercials? Another problem: can you remember when if you ordered before a certain time, your order went out the same day? That hasn't happened for a over a year now, on any of my orders. So much, for automation.

I understand your feeling, but midwayusa.com isn't the only company doing this, midsouthshooterssupply.com is doing the same thing.
-Plus to my knowledge midsouthshooterssupply.com doesn't offer any birthday discounts.

midsouthshooterssupply.com also charges on returns of non-defective merchandise is subject to a 20% restocking fee and 30 days of purchase.
-midwayusa.com doesn't charge for this and they have supported returns for me that I received as gifts for a full refund and items from over a year past.

I had some very deep, informative conversations with one of the guys from T/C on the Vermont boar hunt, this last weekend about Midway's buying practices. A lot of the problems with Midway's backorders are Midways fauit(just as I thought, bean counters)! I won't go into the secrets here but, look for a new finish called weatherguard on T/C products soon. It sounds too good to be true?

This is all one reason I like Graf & Sons. Flat shipping charge of $5.95 for whatever you order (other than primers or powders which have a Hazmat fee). I have ordered packages so heavy my wife had trouble getting them off the porch. They to do have a charge for a small order, not sure what the amount is.

I buy most of my stuff from Graf & sons ,on line orders $4.50 s/h $6.95 over the phone. Prices are very competitive.

Since Midway changed their website it has become much less user friendly and I find myself going to their competitors websites now. I wish they wouldn't have messed things up!

You all need a gun shop like I use. I tell the guys when he orders shop stock, to add the powder and primers I want to his list. He gets truck deliveries to the shop every 2 or 3 weeks, and I avoid shipping charges altogather. The wait is well worth the savings. So talk to your local gun shops and see if they will do the same for you.

Sure they will. The problem here is prices are so high it's still cheaper to order unless you only need a few small items. The local shops that sell reloading supplies are outrageously high mostly full retail and occasionally even higher.

I purchase from Midway, MidSouth, Graf, and Natchez.

I always try to get from MidSouth over Midway.

One time, I was buying a RockChucker press and Midsouth, lowered the price to be competitive with someone else.

Midway was great years ago when they shipped free to the lower 48. Their "fair and honest " shipping is a scam, I no longer do business with them. Natchez and Midsouth are excellent to deal with and don't make additional profit on shipping and handling. Brownells is also excellent

I find myself dealing with Brownells exclusively, when ever possible, now.

Example: I ran out of labels for my reloads($3-$4@100 I ordered 200), and Midsouth or Natchez neither carried this item. With the special handling charge and shipping they came to over double what labels would of cost(just under $20). They arrived in a padded envelope?

The labels are just one item. The point he's driving at is the selection of products to chose from. I noticed a tv commercial for a new show coming up on the outdoors show that looked like something I'd really like to watch, and it was sponsered my midway. They support a lot of my favorite show & the NRA round up.

All the online stores have deals, just depends on what you're looking for.
