Where there's a will........
« on: November 08, 2008, 09:42:33 AM »
Months ago someone asked how some of us find a way to hunt. That thread is pretty old, so I'll just start this one to comment.

Sometimes you can find a way to hunt. And other times. Well, you just have to keep trying until you can find one. But they can't beat you until you say, "I give up."

I can walk roughly a 100-150 feet before the pain becomes incredible. It's due to a fall 35 years ago that smashed 5 discs and a chewed up some of the  nerves. And of course, arthritis has worked it's magic in my spine ever since.

Up home I had friends and my brother to help me. But once we retired to Florida I spent 3 years looking for a way to hunt without having to spend half my pension on a commercial outfit. Finally I found a nice guy that would bring me in, bring a hog out that I had shot, and cut it up for $100. Which I think is pretty darn good considering the work involved.

I had a ball for two years and hammered several hogs. This year we lost the ability to hunt that land so I'm out looking again. Will I find any? I hope I will in the end, but it may take me another 3 years to do it. However, I'll be shooting my rifles every week in the mean time so when the opportunity knocks I'll still be able to hit what I want.

Nothing works better then trying....... Qajaq

Hang in there.  I've MS and severe fatigue that limits my physical activities.  So most of my hunting now is done by boat.  I don't get the quantity of game that others get, but at least I do get out and get some.  Fortunately, deer are plentiful and walk along the shore after the snow flies, but other areas of the country can take advantage of some transport for disabled hunters.
Greg lost his battle with cancer last week on April 2nd 2009. RIP Greg. We miss you.

Boats are cool. I have that dreaded MS too. I don't have much water 'round here...so I got one of these. It's electric and nice 'n quiet. Easy to get in and out of. Posi-traction, set up for low end torque. Doesn't go fast and doesn't leave tire ruts. Like you say.....you gotta do what you gotta do. Keep up the positive attitude and keep huntin!
