.22lr by a LARGE margin.

If you reload you can shoot .357 plinkers for abot the same as .22, I say .223 is next. 8)

Of the available Handi rifles the 22lr is the cheapest, but since we are in the center fire rifle section it would be 357 mag barrel and 38 Specials if you buy ammo and if you Hand load, then either 38 Special or 357 Mag.

I should have mentioned that i ment other that a 22lr.  I was refering to a 357 or 45...
something along those lines.  thanks

you can shoot cast bullets in a 45 Colt pretty cheaply also and it's a good load if a nice buck comes along wHile you are plinking...i am shooting 200 grain SWC 45 ACP bullets in my 45 colt cases( cuz i have a couple thousand bullets) with enough 231 to get about 950 fps and i use a 45 acp taper crimp and just give em a little bump with it....if you hit a deer in the front shoulder with this load at 50 yds it will be dead before it hits the ground....
