Who uses a 7x64 Brenneke?
« on: November 12, 2008, 01:43:07 AM »
I'm seriously considering getting a T3 in 7x64 sometime in the near future and I'm interested about people's opinion of them.
What sort of ammo/brass/reloads are you using?
What sort of game do you hunt with it and how does it perform?

I "have" a Steyr model M professional in 7 x 64. Lent it to my cousin about twenty years ago, and she won't give it back. However, she uses it every year to harvest a couple of deer, so I just keep my mouth shut.

As I remember it, I made brass from Win. 270, or mabye it was 280. Loaded it with 140 Nosler partions and IMR 4350. Don't remember the exact amount, but have it written down at home. Norma makes loaded ammo, and empty brass, but they sure used to be proud of it and I couldn't afford to play that game.

Nice, moderate recoil, accurate rifle round. About like a standard 280.

I have a rare H&R Handi-rifle 7x64, haven't hunted with it, but ammo is available from Hornady, S&B, PRVI as well as Norma. Federal offered it at one time with partitions and may still be found occasionally. Norma and Speer brass are available also.  ;)

See, now you're beginning to get me worried.
Can you get T3s in 9.3x62 there?

Sadly, the only Metric cartridge that is imported here is the 6.5x55 sweed. I wouldn't be too woried, those of us that own Tikkas here really like them. I have one in 25/06 and one in 300wsm and I have been very happy with both of mine. They are both SS T-3 lites and both shoot lights out. I sure would like to get my hands on a 7x64 though. Unfortunatly, I don't know of anyone overhere chambering in 7x64. To my knowledge, the only person selling a 9.3 in the states is CZ. Again, I have not heard anything bad about there 9.3 rifles either.

Phew!!
For a moment there I thought you might tell me that you could get anything else apart from the Brenneke but if you can't get a 9.3x62 in a T3 and we can chances are I can also buy one in 7x64 Brenneke.
I'm sorry you can't get them in 9.3 as mine is a great rifle.
I guess it's a result of US importers deciding what will sell rather than setting stuff up so you can order more unusual items.
Here in Oz our numbers are so low that I imagine it matters little if they have to order unusual items although I guess I'll find out when I try to order it.

Good news!!
I headed out to Magnum Sports in Sydney today while I was up visiting family and checked on the availability of T3s in 7x64 Brenneke.
Not only could Andrew, Magnum Sports owner, confirm that Beretta Australia imports them but he also had a stock list of the current 7x64 T3s Beretta has in their warehouse.  :D
It included a Hunter, a Left Handed Deluxe (of all things :-\) and a Lite.
So not only do Beretta bring Tikka T3 7x64s into the country, they keep them in stock, not just special order them.
They don't do it in every model, only the Lite, Hunter, Hunter Stainless, Deluxe, Battue and Battue Light, which is unfortunate because I'd prefer to have a Lite Stainless to match my 9.3x62.
In fact I find it downright odd that they make a Hunter Stainless but not a Lite Stainless or Laminate Stainless when this particular cal is superb for mountain hunting.  ???
Ah, well, at least they are available here.  :)
