I'd say you did darn good.  How's it shoot?

At that price it could look like a club and the scope could be busted, but if it shoots good you made a great deal.

A few years back that was the going price around here... Now I think used is probably closer to 250... Most people that have them hold on to them even if they don't hunt with them... I paid around 350 for the one i bought brand new... It was a plain model... I love my marlins and winchesters....

I did my early hunting with a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington. These are accurate guns and there's nothing unusual about a Marlin holding three shots to an inch at 100 yards. The price is excellent. Hopefully, it's a low power scope. Nothing more ugly than the Hubble telescope on a Marlin.

Must be the "norm" as I purchased my latest 336 in 30-30 without scope or scope rings but with a soft case and sling for $175.00 and it is a shooter, looks great, and my 17 y.o. couldn't be happier.  Now we're going to tune it up just right with handloads.  I am going to teach him how to hand load in the process.  Can it get better than that?

Depends on where in the country you are.  Around here you just robbed someone at that price.  I think the used places and pawn shops are looking at the new stainless, laminated stock prices and jacking every Marlin, Win, and even the Glenfield prices up.  I see alot of older ones in pretty ruff shape for 275-350 range.  Problem is, some damn fool (me) is gonna find one made the year he was born and pay too much for it, so they keep the prices up.  Oh well, I need another project I won't finish. :D  DP
