Funny how many pro and con arguments there are for the M700.  I have never owned one that with a little tweaking didn't make an accurate rifle plenty accurate for hunting. It is a sort of handsome action that weighs less than any Mauser action.  I just have a bit more confidence in my M98 rifles simply because I personally inspected or replaced every part I felt needed it. I like the fact that the Mauser it is easy to field strip the bolt and that the extractor and ejector are so much more robust than the Remington action has. I also feel the bolt release on the mauser action is far better placed on the M98. It is certainly not as suseptable to dust as the bolt release on the Remington.

Well I have had and do have Mauser actioned rifles and not only 98's  ;)but I have never had and probably never will have a Rem 700. Have shot them and quickly handed tham back as they feel awful to use. And why have something that you dislike so?

As a kid growing up, I wanted two rifles. A marlin in 35 Rem and a Remington 700 chambered in 7mm Remington. When I was old enough my grandfather let me use a 50's sporterized 98 Mauser in 8mm. He later gave me that rifle. It was the first I hunted with, the first I shot a deer with and the first rifle I owned. Needless to say it has buku sentimental value to me.

As the years passed I bought those rifles I yearned for as a kid. I bought a couple 700's, a couple Mauser's and a pile of Marlins. I still have most of the Marlins, all of the Mauser's, but none of the Remington's.

In my opinion, Remington's of the past 5-7 years have gone down hill. I always thought of them as the best most accurate choice for a deer rifle the average man could afford. I sold hundreds of them with that pitch. I will say the vast majority where completely satisfied. Even so, I would buy another. But for now, I have what I need and what I want in my Mauser's.

Well i know my hows 1500 in 270 will shoot Mao at 100 yards all day long ,it has shot any ammo i try that way.Best bang for the buck,IMO. Only con on my hows is it is a little heavy, but i guess it is just a well made rifle.
I enjoy collecting guns, swaping and staying up on all the newest models. I deer, quail, squirrel and rabbit hunt.

The Howa is a POS.  I'll leave you to your sophomoric rambling.  You know I'm right.

Hey guys....  I picked up a couple of really nice pieces of stainless steel pipe today for a song, the smaller pipe was solid on one end.  I figure that I'll buy the cheapest barrel blank I can find, thread the pipe and barrel, get a pot metal trigger for the trigger group, take the smaller pipe and solder a handle onto it, pin on a couple of blocks of metal to the end for locking lugs, and put it in a hollow plastic stock. 8)

WALLAH!  I have a new Remington 700 Stainless SPS!  I just KNOW that it's going to shoot 1/2MOA with the loads I've got from some surplus WWII brass, powder, and bullets (FMJ's, but I'll just file a bit off the tip so they are now expanding bullets)!  Of course, it's a 30-06 as well.  You just CAN'T expect anything SMALLER to be able to RELIABLY kill a whitetail with an average live weight of 150lbs or so.  LOL.

The by your account the Rem 700 must be a steaming POS as well because we all know that the howa is little more than a carbon copy of a remington 700

A very poor and cheaply made copy.  It looks like a Dasiy when you remove the stock.

Still the Mauser is ok for big game because MOA accuracy is acceptable.  The Remington 700 remains the best selling, and most accurate production rifle in the world.

please explain how a one piece bolt & handle and a integral recoil lug is "cheaper" than a stamped sheet steel recoil lug and a soldered on bolt handle

you wanna see remington quality at it's finest watch this video

OK it's now quite glaringly obvious you've never seen a HOWA outside it's stock, So might i suggest taking a little of your own advice before getting caught in more lies and "I'll leave you to your sophomoric rambling."

That's what I thought too...  The difference was staggering to me.  Also explains why my Remington 7400 Semi Auto copper fouls so bad too, even after 1200 rounds through it.  You could never get that barrel in the video smoothed enough to not foul badly.

I examined a new .308 quite carefully about a month ago.  I was trying to help my friend to get his to stop going off without the trigger being pulled.  It was very poorly made IMO.

I usually manage to see enough unethical conduct without seeing it on the web.  Thanks for the offer.

I think that this is "spirited debate/discussion", myself.  Everyone is defending their opinions....

BTW, on how many different threads are you going to ask why people slam on Swampman?  This is at least the third one I've seen today. Does it really bother you that much?  Are you his son or a relative or something?   ;D  I don't see you commenting about "trash talk" on any threads where Swampman is slamming peoples opinions/likes/dislikes.

No matter who sees (or does not see) the facts, the facts are the facts.

This applies to many facets of life.  No need to shoot the messenger.
