When I was in the service I picked this up in Thailand
Som Tam (Thai) summer salad
3-5 chili or Thai peppers (or fresh chilies), 3 cloves garlic, 1 chopped tomato, 1 Turnip (sliced very very paper thin like thin paper french fries. You can also use eggplant, Rutabaga and Parsnips. 1 crab or 1lb crabmeat, 1 handful chopped papaya, 3 tbsp. fish sauce or squid sauce
(Its lighter than soy sauce) 2 pieces lemon 1 tsp. sugar.
1. Pound chili peppers and garlic together. Add tomato, Turnips, and crab meat. mix it with fish sauce, lemon, and sugar.
3. Put papaya in and mix it with a spoon.
4 Chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes
6. serve with fresh sliced cucumber, Rice, and a leg or rack of lamb off the grill.
7. Kick back on deck with friends and enjoy
(The Cucumber is good for taking away some of the Bite of the thai peppers)
